Owen Arthur has made several statements that both stung and petrified this nation since he became a party political leader and Prime Minister. Citizens have by and large given him an easy time, but he has not given any of them an easy time. Arthur has used his tongue like a two edged sword. He has cursed anyone who dared oppose him or his view. He called a local journalist an indentured servant. His tongue was supposedly sharpened on both sides. He has declared that the Poor black man he needs, is one that has 10,000,000. 00.
He is alleged to have lambasted Stephen Alleyne on the night before his death. We cannot verify this but we know the viciousness of his mouth. Owen Arthur shelf life is over. He needs to be truly unmasked by the electorate of Brnbados . His true face should beshown to shown to all sundry.

t is interesting to note that Owen Arthur in the Nation newspaper sought to imply that David Thompson in his call for three public debates among the leaders was in fact also announcing no confidence in his colleagues since he did not seek to include then in any of the debates. This statement alone is proof why the voting public should be wary of what comes out of this man’s mouth. He in his nomination speech went to great effort to try to show how his parents raise him to be honest, however I dare say they failed. In the last two elections was not the campaign slogans for the BLP ” Owen now more the ever”, and ” We goin wid Owen”. Were these not no confidence in your colleagues. As a matter of fact when the date of January 15 was announced for election did the Nation Newspaper not carry an article showing Dugid’s constituency office being plaster with flyers the read “Owen now more than ever”. not even he had the courage to promote himself. THAT SIR IS NO CONFIDENCE.

WHAT A CARING LEADER
Caring Leaders continuously talk with those who they lead. Caring leaders don’t forsake their people, throw them to the wolves and then come back to them almost a year later because they need these same people to help them with their political survival.
Where was Prime Minister Owen Arthur since his budget presentation of March 2007 ??? Where was his voice when we needed him most ?? When others were saying that something needed to and could be done about the high cost of living, where was he ???
Where was his voice regarding:
The calls for Transparency and Accountability
The Government’s Provision and Ensuring of Affordable Land and Housing for Citizens
The QEH MESS and General problems in provision of Health Care
The Declining Behaviour and Attitudes in our School System
The Decline in the achievement of CXC certification among boys
The Expansion of the drug culture and the brazen public drug use seen among our youth
The Road Horrors experienced by our motorists
The Public Transport Problems and BAD ‘ON ROAD’ behaviour of Private PSV workers
The Serious Problems with Poverty that Dame Olga Spoke about on 19th Dec 2007
The Need for Vendors to be adequately accommodated and located
The Demise of the Small Used Car Businesses
The failings of CWC World Cup despite its’ high cost and many unfulfilled promises
The Hardwood Issue
The High Costs Overruns of Government
The Allegations about Contract Builders like Veco (prison) and 3 S’s (ABC highway)
Suddenly as the election was drawing near, he tries to give a little ease here and there with some food items and the light bill costs, after saying that the DLP’s idea of selective price control could not work He now wants to talk with us at Town Hall Meetings.
MAYBE HE WAS TOO BUSY PUTTING TOGETHER HIS GRAND PLAN TO ENSURE HIS 16TH DEC 2007 PUBLICLY STATED DESIRE, “TO NEVER AGAIN SEE THE DLP HOLD THE REINS OF OFFICE IN THIS LAND”
WHAT A THREAT TO OUR DEMOCRACY !!! NO WONDER HE HARASSES AND CURSES THOSE WHO PUBLICLY OPPOSE HIM OR HIS GOVERNMENT.
ERIC GAIRY OR FORBES BURNHAM COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT ANY BETTER

I noticed the same in his so called vision video, and thought that his response was an obvious nonsequitur.
It is noteworthy that Thompson sought debate on specified topics, upon which he clearly has something pertinent and powerful to propagate. The PM with a tired brain, is not quite up to the cut and thrust of debating Thompson on these matters. Consequently he must dismiss Thompson’s request and spout his own bovine excrement.
Since the BLP insists that the DLP has no leadership and that Thompson is a poor leader, Owen should have jumped at the opportunity to demolish Thompson once for all, and gather the spoils all for him self as he desires. By backing down and runny away like a dog wounded by a well placed stone, Arthur indicates that he is not as sure as he suggests. Or, maybe he is afraid that there is some damaging truth that Thompson might reveal in such a debate that might have him so much on the backfoot that he gets out hit wicket (or as we used to say as children “cut down.”
Surely it is true, as it is written THE GUILTY FLEE WHEN NO MAN PURSUETH.

It is also noteworthy in this video that for 98 % of the video Arthur’s face only is presented, even though there was a room full of people.
This video did not present a united front or a conference or campaign based on camaradie.
In fact, while Arthur was smiling and joking, the brief glimpses of Billie in the background indicates that she was less than amused.
Arthur introduced the diotrophetic Mascoll as his left hand man but his assumed right hand man, Mia was not shown.
Methinks that we have here a case of one spitting in the air, and the spittle falling back in their face.
SEEMS BLP IS A ONE MAN PARTY WITH A VERY POOR SUPPORTING CAST.
December 29, 2007 at 8:24 pm
Owen is the best man to lead the country. He has been tried in the hottest fires and proved to all that like good steel, he has perpetual shelve life.
The DEM supports will be holding the belly come January 15 when our Great Barbados Labour Party is returned to move the Country to a higher level for our people.
Shame on you. Your desperate use of the good name and charter of Stephen Alleyne clearly indicates the level the DEM will go to to win. How low will you and the DEM get to win a government?
You should also pay some attention to David Thompson mouthing. Ask Rice-Bowen.
We are watching these comments on this blog. Some day, these comments will come back to hurt you, our Country and your party. Take about keeping it clean. You guys need to do some serious introspection about yourself and think of what those persons who are looking on thing about you and your party if you are to ever govern this country.

In an article entitled No Change For Change posted on its blog on December 30, 2007, the BLP begs not to be booted out of office remain in office after three term, because
a) in Jamaica ruling parties have benefited from four terms in office,
b) in Australia the John Howard administration was able to retain the confidence of the electorate on four occasions until it suffered a crushing defeat earlier this month,
c) Americans are wont to say that if a thing is not broken you do not change it,
d) a talented BLP team of ministers have introduced innovative programmes which have propelled the country into the category of the number one developing in the world,
e) the fact that you don’t change such an administration for one that brought the country to its knees in 1994 when unemployment rose to the unprecedented level of 22 per cent.
The author of this article needs to understand that Bajans do not have to follow the pattern of either the Jamaicans, the Australians or the Americans.
The author of this article needs also to realize that this is not 1994, and that the DLP are now ready to take over the reins of Government. The DLP HAS BOUNCED BACK.
The author of this article needs to list the members of this talented BLP team of ministers for the Bajan public to understand what they are trying to fool us with.
Does he mean that Wood, or Rommel, or Liz, or Gline Clarke etc are talented? After 13 years Liz cant open the dump. Tell us more about this team of talented ministers. Is Cinty talented too, besides as a primary school teacher?
We are told that “there has been a dramatic turn-around in the country’s fortunes and that foreign reserves have now reached the record level of $2 billion.” They forget that Bajans both at home and abroad are cognizant of the fact that this because the PRIME MINISTER HAS SOLD OUR PRIME LANDS to achieve this! The most serious injury one can attempt to do me is to insult my intelligence.
Strike me, beat me, bite me; do what so ever you will. But do not insult my intelligence.
The author of the article opines “One only has to take a drive along the West and South coasts to witness the evidence of the return of investor confidence.” This is because the Owen Arthur administration has sought to measure success by its erections! Erections like a renewed Kensington Oval that is not owned by the people, a new prison that was built with great cost over runs. Now they want to erect a new hospital?
Are we to understand that the PM having now probably suffering from erectile dysfunction secondary to his chronic alcoholism, is now so focused on the attainment of erections that erections of any sort consumes his every thought?
It is noteworthy that all the Deputy Prime Minister, Mia Mottley can projest for the future is that 3000 persons living in urban tenantries will soon have the titles to their lots transferred at a cost of $2.50 per sq. ft. Is this not a project that should long ago have been completed, having had its origin in the BLP administration from 81-86? All that the “talented” Deputy Prime Minister can currently offer the people is the commitment to the removal of pit toilets from the landscape by the year 2017.
A future BLP government can only offer help from the UDC, the RDC and the Enterprise Growth Fund Ltd to help farmers, barbers and hair stylists. WOW! What rocket science!
The BLP is so determined to have a one party state that the purveyor of this pithy, puerile prose government found it again necessary to comment that “the current pleas being made by the DLP for a change of government are born out of fear of extinction.” The extinction of the DLP, not their defeat at the poll is their main concern. The Jamaican or Australian oppositions that suffered quadruple defeats at the polls did not become extinct. But the BLP seeks that the DLP become EXTINCT if they should lose a fourth consecutive election in Barbados.
A word of warning to the wise ought to be enough!
The author concludes by suggesting the party which rules the streets, rules the country. Is this another veiled warning?
The only sensible or serious sentences in all this drivel with which we can agree are that “ Common sense dictates that people change a government when they recognise that it has lost direction or its relevance. You change an appliance if it is broken or not working well.”
This is what the Bajan electorate must do, at the next election.

Lil Bro
With respect, I apologise to others for using your analogy:
“Owen is the best man to lead the country. He has been tried in the hottest fires and proved to all that like good steel, he has perpetual shelve life.”
I disagree, good steel – depend on alloying elements, manganese, silicon, carbon, chromium etc – it has no perpetual shelf life in the hottest fires, as it can be burnt out, at very high temperatures.
The needed alloying elements, in this government eg ministers have failed, in the hottest fires, the election campaign battle, we have seen blunders by your leader. I therefore put it to you, using your analogy, the steel is burnt out and should be discarded.
Time for a change.

Lil Bro,
What are these ‘hottest” fires to which you refer? Owen is the most over rated PM Barbados ever had! His leader ( drunk as a fish) leaves much to desire! His treatment of people also is not reflective of a good leader….and unfortunately his Ministers are overpowered b his dictatorship. They are all afraid of him. How else can you explain the behaviour of Hammie La, Rommel, Payne, Liz WHO WERE FIRED?….BUT MIA will take care of him. This is his last elections at the head of the BLP!
January 1, 2008 at 7:45 pm
If the Bees were to win the elections, the MIA faction will depose Owen, and we will have more biting than ever. Our morality will hit rock bottom. Then our civilization will decline faster than that of the Babylonians, the Persians, the Greeks or the Romans.

I AM A POET
THOUGH I DIDNT KNOW IT
MIA WAS FIGHTING OWIN THE RUNT
SHE TRIED TO BITE HIM AS THOUGH HE WAS A nice boy.
I forget how to rhyme this time.

Election fever is heating up and “leadership” has been touted as a major issue. A number of learned and other commentators seem to be anointing the current Prime Minister as exhibiting outstanding leadership especially on the economic front. This anointing occasioned me to do some fact checking and a few of the facts rather surprised me:
1. Barbados attained status of number one developing country prior to this current administration. Maybe it was just me, but I was getting the distinct impression that the number one ranking was evidence for the outstanding leadership of Owen Arthur. The facts suggest that Barbados actually lost this number one ranking and then regained it under Owen Arthur’s leadership.
2. The international debt rating of Barbados as measured by Moodys and Standard and Poors has never improved under this administration, but has instead declined under this administration. We currently have a quite respectable BBB+, but our initial rating was an A- rating. Again, maybe its just me, but I was getting the impression that an above average rate of economic growth in Barbados was evidence for the outstanding leadership of Owen Arthur.
3. The Barbados current account was in surplus from 1992 to 1996 but has been in deficit every year since. Again, maybe its just me, but I was getting the impression that excellent performance in international trade and business was evidence for the outstanding leadership of Owen Arthur.
4. The 2007 Balance of Payments reports from the Central Bank of Barbados suggests that the vast majority of capital flows into Barbados and the resulting reserves are really borrowed funds, especially related to Build Own Lease and Operate (BOLT) projects such as the new prison at Dodds. Again, maybe its just me, but I was getting the impression that generating strong foreign exchange reserves was evidence of the outstanding leadership of Owen Arthur.
5. A number of high profile public sector appear to have been less than well executed. Key public services such as health care, public transportation appear to be in less than the best condition. Again, maybe its just me, but I was getting the impression that flawless execution of government business and projects was evidence of the outstanding leadership of Owen Arthur.
These few facts must be weighed against the historic low in the rate of unemployment and the high standard of living in Barbados. It seems to me that Barbados distinguished itself as a country with a high standard of living since the 1970,s and this has largely remained the case. The Owen Arthur administration has certainly had its fair share of successes but the macroeconomic picture is for more mixed than some would have you believe and the administration has failed dismally in the execution of major projects and the quality of public services delivered. I have no problem giving kudos to Owen Arthur and his administration, but I am not sold on this notion of exemplary management of economic affairs.

The BLP cannot win an election without the focus being on Owen, this shows their weakness as a party. If Owen was re-lected and by chance dies, can’t we as Bajans envision the turmoil our country would be in? He is a one man party. They cannot survive without Owen. Granted Bajans thought Owen was the best leader when he was re-elected three times. He has however shown that power corrupts by his arrogant statements. He seems to believe he can do and say whatever he like and Bajans will accept it. Only die-hard Bees who are so ignorant in supporting one party regardless of the situation will tolerate this behaviour. I have voted for both parties and will always analyse the situation carefully before I cast my vote. I have already done this and on January 15th will be voting DLP. I am constantly praying about this decision in my mind and know for right now it is the best decision. The BLP members have become arrogant and right now their chief concern is themselves and not the electorate. They need a break. We are sick of the BLP’s arrogance. BArbadians are not idiots. Town meetings, Christmas parties and hampers can’t swell up our brains.
