THE POLITICAL DESPERATION OF OWEN ARTHUR WILL INCREASE OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS

The political behaviour of Owen Arthur and his gang over the next several days of this political campaign is beginning to emerge. ARthur is not interested in debating the issues. He is more concerned with how he will spin whatever information is made available by the Democratic Labour Party. It will be the strategy of disinformation. They will suggest the opposite to what are the truth and the reality of the current situation. The BLP is at its most desperate and therefore at its most dangerous. There are going to be citizens out there who will become confused by these antics. It is going to take many of us to clarify for them the issues.

This election is not about leadership, nor disagreements. It is about the burden of living in Barbados. It is about the extremely high price of land, It is about the high level of illegal immigration in Barbados. It is about issues of intergrity, accountability and transparency. It is about corruption. It is about the way in which Barbadians should be governed and not dictated to. It is about a sensible plan for the future. Barbadians do not want to be caught up in the gutter behaviour of political campaigns. Let us liberate the nation from the constant filth of political speeches. Some of the new candidates of the BLP have already resorted to smear campaigns and gutter behaviour as though they can win that way. Barbadians must reject this type of behaviour.

Onward to victory, Restore Barbados, Vote out the BLP and Owen Arthur

  • Permit me space to respond to an article posted on the BLP website on Dec 30, 2007 at http://blp.org.bb/news/292 entitled DR DAVID ESTWICK IS AT IT AGAIN.

Let the author of this drivel know that a simple change of government will NOT remove all challenges facing the nation at this time, BUT IT WILL REMOVE THE MAJOR challenge to democracy and sound governance in this country.

The author of this article is correct in thinking that education enlightens and that an enlightened electorate having benefited from a sound education will uncritically accept a party’s call for change without empirical evidence to substantiate such a call. Off course not! We certainly are inclined to pursue our self interests in this situation.

WE DO NOT WANT THE WOULD BE DICTATOR OWEN ANYMORE!
WE DO NOT WANT TO BE LED BY A GANG OF FOLK WITH STRANGE MORALS
WE DO NOT WANT TO BE LED BY A GANG OF INCOMPETENTS WHO OVERSEE EVERY PROJECT WITH COST OVERRUNS

WE DO NOT WANT FREEDOM OF THE PRESS TO BE DESTROYED MORE THAN IT IS ALREADY

Perusal of your glossy handout on your website reveals that Dr Estwick is correct when he opined that only the construction sector working to enrich certain groups. You corroborate his position, by filling your glossy comic book with pictures of buildings. It seems that the thing foremost on the minds of most BLP folk are ERECTIONS!

Yes BLP it was indeed the Master, Jesus Christ, who said that the poor will always be among us? That is how the public knows that your foolish talk about poverty alleviation and eradication is nonsense. You bought out Hammie Lah with that bovine excrement on one side, and then you put more burden on the same people in favor of the rich by allowing price gouging by the merchants. BLP you speak with forked tongue on poverty.

The BLP continues to believe that Bajans think that over the past 13 years the Owen Arthur administration has brought a level of prosperity to the country unheard of in its history. But poor Bajans, and the average Bajan knows that they are currently sucking salt. They know that the cost of living is higher than it ever has been, and that the government did nothing about it!
    .
We know that that many workers are living on tight budgets in our country, and that most of the items we use are imported from abroad. However, we know also that this can change rapidly if certain duties and taxes be removed or lowered. EVEN THE UNEDUCATED KNOW THAT THE BLP ARE IN THE POCKETS OF THE MERCHANTS OF BARBADOS!

It is certainly very true that.”every man born of a woman always wants to know what is in a situation for them.” At this time the Barbadian public is worried and sure that what is in store for them if perchance the BLP should be returned to office, is that we will have a dictatorship, and the completion of the sale of our lands to foreigners. Our press and radio and television station are already controlled by the BLP, and people are fearful in speaking out.
    .
The author jests when he posits that Barbadians are aware that with Arthur at the helm their jobs and homes are secure, because Bajans are more concerned as to when the rest of their island will be sold to overseas maguffy, who will deny them acess to the beaches inter alia.

Owen keeps harping about what he has done; and that should cause him not to be demitted from office after three terms in office. But Mr Barrow did as much, or more. Yet he was removed from office in 76. Jesus created the whole world, and he was crucified on a cross! Who is Owen Arthur!

An educated people can replace Owen Arthur as Minister of Finance. Minister’s of Finance come, and they go. Owen Arthur is not indispensible. . Owen Arthur is not GOD

Actually the clamor for change at this time indicates that Barbadians are not at all secure with Arthur as the head of government, because they have seen this man develop into a monstrous DICTATOR!

  • We are now reading this diabolical drivel & diatribe by the BLP about a team 2008
I hope the electorate don’t swallow this bait

All of a sudden we are hearing of a “talented TEAM” when all along, for 13 years, we were hearing of OWEN’s LEADERSHIP. We were to GO with OWEN. Now we have gone with OWEN, and now we chose NOT to go with him ANYMORE. We were not hearing about a team then.

    BLP regurgitating GRIFFITH and PAYNE?
BLP regurgitating MIA of biting fame.
    They should be ashame
    BLP regurgitating ROMMEL and WOOD?
Wuh they have not done us much good.
BLP regurgitating Mascott the man from hardwood.

BLP regurgitating JEROME WALCOTT who doesn’t have a clue
BLP regurgitating RAWLE and the other MARSHALL , wah boo hoo

We are now reading this diabolical drivel & diatribe by the BLP about a team………
Seems the BLP having a dream

BLP regurgitating LIZ to carry we to the dump
BLP regurgitating CINTY, what has she done
The BLP really think the electorate making fun.

We are now reading this diabolical drivel & diatribe by the BLP about a team 2008
I hope the electorate don’t swallow this bait

  • Very well put, I would hope that David can ask his team to disregard the smear comments which will inevitably come across the campaign trails. We want a Barbados which will not go to the gutter because the opponents go there. We the voters are not interested in who slept with whom or who may have said or done something in their developing years as a teen. What we want are the facts relating to the performance (or lack of), of the current admisinstration and how David and his team will raise the Bar 2008 and on.
Tell us where has accountability gone, how will it be returned. Tell us that in the future someone will be held accountable for massive cost overruns.
Tell me why my kids will have to work for at least 10-15 years before they can start to invest in a home or piece of land unless they are given a handout by their parents who can now ill afford it.

I know that there are times when the urge to quickly slip into the gutter will be there. I know its necessary sometimes to join the frolic, but I would caution “Jump in & Jump out quickly”, do not dwell there less you be labeled “Gutter Rat”. Leave the labels where they currently are.
This is one election I would advocate each and every eligible voter to exercise their right and say this is enough.

  • In an article entitled Haven in the Eastern Caribbean posted on Dec 29th at . http://blp.org.bb/index.phpposted on December 29th at The BLP seems to be trying to make a case for not dealing with excessive migration to Barbados which accounts for the large numbers of Guyanese in the country that seems to be causing great discomfort to Barbadians.

The author pontificates that “ Barbados is to the nationals of the Eastern Caribbean and Guyana, what Britain is to the nationals of Eastern Europe, the Indian Sub-Continent, Africa and the Middle East” totally incognizant or uncaring of the repercussions this is having on Bajans.

Despite admitting that they know that the goal of these illegal immigrants is to in most cases “to gain employment; avoid political marginalization or persecution in their homelands or benefit from the the educational and social programmes that are in place in Barbados.”
I am forced to debunk this pithy puerile prose emanating from their website, because they make it sound like they are manna from heaven and that Owen is the Messiah. Nothing is further from the truth.
It is interesting that the BLP spouts that “An independent judiciary also attracts the attention of prospective emigrants. Non-nationals taking up residence in Barbados know that they can have justice in the law courts. Barbados has a long tradition of an incorruptible judiciary. Judges appointed to sit on the bench have never been removed from office for wrong-doing or the miscarrige of justice.”

This is how it ought to be. What is the fuss? Prospective immigrants and our residents want to know too what was the nature of the quantum of the settlement between Owen and Beverley. This knowledge which has been suppressed by the local courts would inform the populace of the degree of wealth that Owen has accumulated on his salary of less than 200,000 per annum in 12 years, given that in 1993 he claimed he could not live on 48,000 per annum. Ah lie?.

Barbados is being seen as the Gem of the Eastern Caribbean. because for decades there has been good leadership in Barbados. Owen Arthur has not done anything more than anyone else as a leader in their tenure. Adams, Barrow, Adams, St John, Sandiford were all worthy leaders.

Just as artisans and professionals from across the region have flocked to Barbados, so to have Bajans gone overseas seeking work. The fact that our neighbours from the contiguous islands wish to make Barbados our home, is also nothing new. This has gone on for decades. Folk from the Windwards especially used to come over to trade in the days of the inter island schooners and the Federal boats. Many stayed. The current building boom in Barbados has offered many job opportunities to nationals from Guyana and the Eastern Caribbean. That is probably the real reason they are seeking work in Barbados today.

He speaks in another place of setting up a University of Barbados .Let us not forget that university education in Barbados is as old as the hills. Long before UWI, Bajans went up to Codrington College to study for external degrees from the University of Durham. Let us not forget that the Community College that the BLP want to turn into University of Barbados was THE BRAIN CHILD OF ERSKINE LLOYD SANDIFORD.

That Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves of St Vincent and the Grenadines has gone on record as saying that Barbados “is the best run black country in the Western hemisphere, and that Non-nationals from the sister territories of the Eastern Caribbean and Guyana are confirming this observation with their decision to work and live among us is NOTHING NEW. THIS HAS ALWAYS BEEN SO SINCE I WAS A LITTLE BOY. It is well written that THERE IS NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN.

  • The pic with Arthur holding Fidel Castro’s hand with the below caption should be circulated all over Barbados and in a paid ad to the press:

“I’m motivated in a special way by the determination never to see the DLP (opposition party) hold the reigns of office in this country.”

FRAUDS! Barbados Free Press has never had 2 million visitors!

The fraud at Barbados Free Press is again seeking to deceive Bajans and others by proclaiming that his blog has had 2 million visitors since January 2006.

    http://barbadosfreepress.wordpress.com/2008/01/01/who-will-be-our-2-millionth-visitor-it-will-happen-within-the-hour/

Below is a copy of a comment which we just posted on his blog, challenging the BFP claim and exposing jet another BFP LIE. Like hundreds of other truthful comments submitted to BFP, it will most likely be deleted and will never see the light of day, which is why it will be posted on the blogs of BFPE, BLP, DLP and others, as well as submitted to every media organisation in Barbados.

BFPE wishes all Bajans a peaceful, prosperous and FRAUD-FREE 2008.

At present, your blog only receives 24,664 unique visitors a month. Even if you were getting that many from day one, that’s a maximum of 591,936 unique visitors since January 2006, which is much, much less than the 2 million which you so fraudulently claim. Furthermore, a “unique visitor” only means a unique IP address. It does not mean an individual person. If I visit BFP using one computer today, and come back tomorrow using another computer, that would be registered as TWO unique visitors. Most ADSL users get a different IP address each time their modem/internet connection is restarted, so a single person with an ADSL connection could visit your blog at three times during one day (morning, afternoon and night) and be registered as THREE unique visitors.

WordPress blogs have a feature which allows the number of hits to be displayed for the public to see. You will never show yours because it would expose the LIES which you have been publishing about the number of visitors to your blog.

You can hide your own numbers, but you cannot control the fact that sites such as Quantcast allow the public to get the REAL FIGURES which expose FRAUDS like you.

  • So I am here listening to the DLP cultural extravaganza and during John Boyce speech the streaming was interrupted, when it finally came back on it was a repeat mix of music. Makes no sense to me, anybody knows what went wrong?….at this moment the streaming is on but there is silence.

  • Just admin:
Scrutiners and DLP officials, it might be a good idea to take torches with batteries, to the night counting of ballots: preparation in all things.

  • In this article I seek to debunk the bovine excrement purveyed in an article entitled Has the DLP Lost Its Way? posted on the BLP website on Wednesday, 02 Jan 2008 at http://blp.org.bb/news/297

Serious scholars of West Indian History now recognize that since the late CLR James was neither the Lord or one of his appointed prophets, that CLR James was wrong! What Barrow did was form another group to focus on and bring about more effectively the social revolution that Sir Grantley began. It is now time for this work to be resumed. IT IS TIME FOR CHANGE.

All right thinking Bajans know too that the Poverty Alleviation Bureau, the Urban Development Commission and the Rural Development Commission have all been abject failures. All right thinking Bajans know too that the BLP continues to be the party of corporate Barbados, because this was ably demonstrated most especially in this last term of office of the BLP, when price gouging was rampant and when the cost of living escalated out of control!.

It cannot be denied that Arthur has a penchant for recognizing talent wherever it is found. However, unlike the Biblical injunction in Titus 1:8, though a discerner of good men, he does this only to silence them, like he silenced Commissiong, TaFari, Mascoll, Mia and others. The author of this article really thinks that he can fool folk with words. Let him know that we too read widely from Sheridan, Shelley and the Scriptures..

Arthur’s willingness to welcome Clyde Mascoll into the bosom of his party speaks volumes about the blurring of Arthur’s vision as a political leader, and the fact that Arthur was tiring from the job of running with the dead weight of the incompetents in his party. When he looked around for help there was no one. None could rise to the challenge. He found that his dream team was just that – a dream. Mascoll was conscripted to lower his burden, and because he wanted to demote Mia, the heir apparent, and because of his distrust for the others- would bees. But Clyde of Harwood fame, and shame, let him down. Mascoll the econtomist turned out to be a diotrophetic dunce, and a cause for revelation of the divisions in the party!
The author of this piece of pithy prose notes that Arthur opened several doors for children who were born in the gaps and footpaths across Barbados. This is as if doors had not opened for him by Henry Forde, and as though doors were not opened by Barrow to so many as a result of free education and other policies of the 6o’s. As though it is not true as it is written in the Proverbs, that A MAN’S WORK WILL MAKE FOR HIM AND BRING HIM BEFORE GREAT MEN.

If indeed Arthur really “embraced intellectuals whose social origins had excluded them from making any meaningful contribution to the development of the country” we are yet to see the result of such collaboration.

Rather than challenging the writer to identify another Prime Minister of Barbados who appointed a known Pan-Africanist or a member of the Rastafarian community to head a government department in an island which is known for its conservatism, and thereby .
arousing the ire of monarchists and individuals who would want to deny our sordid colonial past of slavery and the dehumanisation of the black population, we are quick to ask what has been the results of these appointments, except for removing the humbug of the criticisms from Tafari and Commissiong to himself. NO less a person that Auntie Olga is stating that she is observing more poverty in Barbados in her work on behalf of the poor than ever before. We are steadfast in pointing out that the sale of our land to the highest bidder and the concomitant raising of the price of a spot of land beyond the reach of the average Bajan has taken the populace farther back to our sordid colonial past of slavery and the dehumanisation of the black population.
    .
On the question of rising to the top, the ex PM is guilty of speaking bovine excrement. The average Bajan does not want to be PM, if he perceives that to be the top. My sons, for example want to be the head of their OWN little busyness, and they seek to be facilitated in doing so. They don’t want to be in politics. If Arthur considers being at the top being PM of Barbados, he is a bigger joker than I thought.

What Arthur has forgotten is that it was the DLP by providing free education created a society where the children of poor people could rise to high office in several spheres of endeavor. What Arthur and friends will soon see, is that the recipients of this free education since 1962 , because they can reason and discern poor logic and argument will brush him out of office on January 15th..

Where ever I go in the world I love to boast that education is FREE IN BARBADOS FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

During Tuesday’s whistle stop tour of the St Michael North West constituency Arthur like a pitbull without teeth presented the non sequitur that the DLP posited that “ Mascoll’s unceremonious removal from the office of the Leader of the Opposition was a clear case of the repudiation of Barrow’s legacy.” Is Arthur saying that the DLP did not have the right to vote Mascoll out from the leadership of the DLP if they choose to?. Does he mean that if the BLP should be returned to office, and MIA be chosen by the parliamentary group to lead the BLP that the legacy of Grantley Adams would be repudiated also?

Arthur there is something you need to understand. Like Samson of old, you wist not that, in your case, the mantle of leadership has been removed from you. Like King Saul you will be replaced by King David. If Thompson wins the election he will be the country’s leader. If the BLP wins the parliamentary group will choose Mia. Prepare to drink yourself to an ethanol dependent grave.

How asinine is the question posed by the author when je says “the question must be asked: ” What role will the DLP play on the local political landscape now that it has denied the son of working class parents access to one of the highest political offices in the country?” As currently composed, as it has always been the DLP is composed of sons and daughters of working class parents. I reiterate very few persons in Barbados are so power hungry and ravished by the sickness of delusions of grandeur that they wish to grasp and hold on to, or determine who should hold “ the highest political offices in the country?”

Finally, let me state that is a lie that “Arthur continues to honor Adams’ legacy with the warm welcome he has extended to the sons and daughters of working class Barbadians who seek to realize their fullest potential” I for one was removed from all the little jobs that I did on behalf of the nation that paid for my education.

  • As said on other blogs, I do not belong to any party, but as one having to guide and advise young people each day, I seek an answers on their behalf.
    1. “If Mr. Mascoll is being hailed as Mr. Arthur’s Co-Leader if the party wins a fourth term, what is this saying about the work done by Ms. Mottley the present Dep. P.M.?”
    2. “Is it fair, that after holding such a position, that Ms. Mottley should now hear such a statement made in public?”
To us, this statement seems unjust and very unfair!
Or, is this another instance of words being misinterpreted?

HOT OFF THE NATIONAL PRESS NEWS REACHING ME RIGHT NOW CONFIRMS THAT MOTTLEY AND ARTHUR CAME TO HIGH WORDS AND MILLER TRIED TO INTERVENE IN THE CUSSING AND IT MOVED TO A ALL OUT FIST FIGHT AND CUFFING AND A AND FIGHT.

IT WAS SO BAD THAT THE POLICE HAD TO BE CALLED IN TO SEPERATE THEM AND TO PUT AN END TO THE FIGHTING.

THIS IS REALLY WONDERFUL FOR OUR PM AND DPM TO BE GOING TO FIST FIGHTS AND ALL OUT WAR JUST PRIOR TO AN ELECTION..

THESE ARE THE SAME ANIMALS THAT ARE ALWAYS TALKING ABOUT A DIVISION WITHIN THE DLP THERE IS NO DIVIDE AS THER IS WITHIN THE BLP THIS IS AN ALL OUT WAR.

  • Darwin Dottin,
Maybe I should have said “sabotaged”…but you must understand that I AM DISSAPOINTED that you, a know supporter of the BLP would so willingly come to the press at Owen’s request but fail to respond to the Opposition DLP. People lifes’s are being threatened and you refuse to even respond to them. I therefore have no confidence in you.

  • If I were Mia I would be watching Clyde. Don’t believe anything he says..the same way he tried to take away the leadership from David, he is going to do the same thing with Mia and he will be smiling!…

  • Are we really and truely living in a DEMOCRACY or are we living in a DICTATORSHIP.

Here we are now hearing that the debate slated for today has been called off because Mr Dale Marshall’s non appearance at C B C today to partake in the debate between he and Michael Lashley.

Now when the ruling party can be this arrogant and ill caring to the people it serves it is sad day in our political life of our nation.

It is also my understanding that the likelyhood of the other debates coming off is very unlikely because a letter received yesterday from CBC stating that they were not in agreement with the request to have the two leaders debate each other, so as we have said before the arrogance and callous nature of this gang of crooks is showing more and more,.

NOW PLEASE TELL ME WHO IS RUNNING FROM THESE DEBATES?

IT CERTAINLY APPEARS THAT THE DLP ARE READY WILLING AND ABLE BUT THE BLP ARE RUNNING SCARED AND ARROGANT.

  • Reports now reaching me also state that we are seeing a new form of theft raising its face on the island and these reports are confirmed and centre around the area of the Pine and the items being reported stolen are DLP TEE SHIRTS a lady called today trying to find replacement TEE SHIRTS as she reported that she was some and hung them out to dry and then had then stolen off her clothes line.

My request to those that want these much wanted shirts is to contact your representative of your area and make your request for your shirt but please do not steal them from your neighbour, because your neighbour is also very much in love with their DLP TEE SHIRTS as well.

  • What is the situation with the first televised debate advertised for tonight? Am I right in hearing that it has been called off? Why? Anyone heard anything about the reasons?

  • Johnnie Too Bad

Sentinel why are you surprised by the way Arthur treated Mia? Is it not his style, is it not the way the man operates? Mia should have known that when the reshuffle came , it was the beginning of the end for her. Mascoll was brought in for the expressed purpose of destabilising Mia. It is quite easy to read Owen’s hand, after the election if Mascoll is around he will have served his purpose, and since all the other Arthur clones are in fear of their gravy train running into the buffers, none of these clones dare support Mia to push Arthur out, and tacitically Mia is a lightweight, otherwise she would long since have pulled a palace coup when Arthur was out of the country.
    Johnnietoobad.

  • Johnnie Too Bad

Can someone please remind me of the salient points of Mascoll’s conversion on the road from George Street to Roebuck Street. I am afraid I blinked and missed it, so please remind me. Also while we are at it, can anyone of our economists let me know what happens when the resource of labour far exceed the demands for labour.I believe the price of labour collapses, so is it with Arthur and the vast army of neighbours that he is encouraging to these shores.

BREAKING NEWS FROM THE ELECTION FRONT.

It has just been reported to me from a very reliable source that the story that broke yesterday about a fight between mottley and Owing is now confirmed by the police and the facts are that yesterday afternoon a fight broke out between mottley and Owing during which mottley took a chair up and threw it at Owing after which the police were called to investigate the matter.

The follow up to this event of yesterday, tonight at a meeting to launch Noeless Blarney Lynch’s campaign at a meeting in Beckles road Owing was a no show and he did not bother to attend the meeting.

Now please tell me which party has clear cut conflicts within their ranks??

Not the DLP as these scamps would have you belief but certainly this scamps the blp do, to the point that they throw around chairs at one another.

Wonderful style for young ones to follow and to look up to and admire.

  • I am happy this blog works! What is wrong with the DLP website? It is not working! None of the links take me anywhere? How am I to learn more about the DLP if I cant surf their website!

  • Yes Andrew this was a meeting that I would suggest we could well have had 10,000 persons at it was packed , it was a massive meeting, it was very informative as well, I wonder what ASSCOLL did at that house to which the speaker referred.

All of the speaskers were of an excellent quality and substance, they really seem to have the ones of the blp by the short and curly.
The comment of the political season must be the one I heard earlier tonight at the MASSIVE DLP MEETING AT THE FARM THIS EVENING.

A PARTY SUPPORTER WHEN ASKED HOW THINGS WERE GOING WITH THE CAMPAIGN AND WITH A SERIOUS AND CONCERNED LOOK ON HIS FACE HE REMARKED THAT HE WAS VERY CONCERNED AND WHEN PRODDED FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT HIS CONCERN HE STATED THAT HE WAS VERY CONCERNED AS TO IF ASSCOLL WOULD MANAGE TO GET BACK HIS DEPOSIT AS HIS DEFEAT WILL BE THE MOST ONE SIDED OF THIS ELECTION.

  • Can anyone explain to me the madness associated with the threats against Dr Don Marshall’s life at his attendance of a blp political meeting over this past weekend.

Where is our freedom of speech our freedom of association, where is our freedom going?

VOTE TO REMAIN LIVING IN A FREE AND FAIR DEMOCRACY.
VOTE DEMS ON THE 15 th TO REMOVE THIS DICTATOR.

  • Adrian let me suggest to you that the blp have no safe seats in this election ZERO SAFE SEATS TO THE BLP, the contempt and the dishonesty, the fraud, the scams, the kickbacks, the WAR in the BLP Camp, the PM’s ARROGANT and POWER HUNGRY STATEMENTS, I AM SPECIALLY MOTIVATED NEVER TO SEE THE DLP HOLD OFFICE AGAIN, are all coming home to roost right now.
The reality is that each and everyone of them is now situated in no mans land, when the clown ASSCOLL is forbidden from entering the houses of BLP supporters in his area what does that say about this election?

When the guys of Haynesville have turned their backs on Liz Thompson and have thrown their support behind Donville Inniss What does that say about this election?

I put it to you that each and every one of them are skating on thin ice and do not know what to expect out of this election.

It is made all the worst for them because of the inclusion of ASSCOLL as Co Leader vote grabbing status, and the all out war that this event has brought to the blp campaign, when mottley, wood, billie and arthur can become embroiled in a all out fist fight with chairs being thrown around at one another it says that this is now the party to be allowed to rule this country.

Along with this event goes the action of Arthur refusing to speak at Lynch area meeting on Friday night, nor do I expect to see him speak in support of Rommel Marshall either after all these two have vested their support squarely behind mottley for the post of the PM and with it brings the hardships as we are seeing with the infighting and the wars.

If we add to this pot the fact that the clown Hammy Lashley went to his nomination in a YELLOW Tee shirt symbolic of support for the DEMS and has been telling people in his area that he is not campaigning and that Arthur is a wicked evil man that does not deserve what he has gotten, and that he wants the people of the Pine to vote for his opponent speaks volumes for the disunity within this blp administration.

VOTE FOR A NEW BEGINNING ON THE 15 Th JANUARY VOTE FOR THE DEMS.

VOTE ALSO TO SECURE OUR DEMOCRACY AND OUR FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND OUR FREEDOM OF ASSOCIATION AND OUR FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION.

  • When the Hoyos family can write an article critical of the BLP as this one is, the WIND OF CHANGE IS CERTAINLY BLOWING A GALE THRU THIS ISLAND.

    The leadership question
By Pat Hoyos Published: January 6, 2008

Anytime you talk politics in Barbados, the question immediately turns to the issue of leadership. And it is almost always about David Thompson, as in: But can he really lead the country?

This question always shows up in the polls. While both major parties are running neck-and-neck, they say, Owen Arthur’s image as a leader outstrips Thompson’s by two-to-one, if I remember correctly.

This is of course being used as a put-down for the current Opposition leader, and the Bees have made the issue the centre piece of their campaign, believing that the more they remind voters of Arthur’s supposedly commanding margin in the leadership category that people will flock to the Bees once more.

Somehow the thousands who assembled at Oistins to meet the DLP candidates didn’t get the message.

You see, I look at it a different way, and because I fall asleep trying to analyse political polls, of course my analysis will be faulty. But I figure that if the Dems can be running an even race with the Bees despite the perception that they have a weak leader, can you imagine how they would perform if they were perceived to have a strong one?

All of which informs my feeble mind that putting the leadership question at the top of the agenda may not working for the Bees. Thompson seems, moreover, to have learned how to respond to it effectively: By remaining low key and not appearing defensive about the “poor leadership” accusations, he is allowing a sort of “underdog” image to work to his advantage.

Instead, he is promoting his team, which belies the rule-by-division image of Thompson which the Bees are spending a lot of money on in their campaign (e.g. the full page ad quoting Freundel Stuart in last Thursday’s Nation).
And instead of showing a large group of candidates in their ads, the Dems are showing collections of four (for education, agriculture and so on) to emphasise what it sees as the depth of professional experience and knowledge in specific areas among its candidates.

This also seems effective to me, as it quietly counteracts the “leadership-by-division” image which the Bees are trying to imprint on the Dems. I hope it works because our democracy is not, to my mind, being served by any campaign which says essentially that there is really no contest because of such poor leadership on the other side. Then why have an election, I wonder? Let’s just declare a one-party state right away and be done with it.

I’ve said it before, and don’t mind saying it again, that the Dems have as talented and well-versed a collection of candidates as do the Bees, in terms of education, experience, willingness to serve, dedication to people and so forth. The Dems and Bees are two parties whose candidates are so well matched, and which differ so little in overall philosophy that they are interchangeable. Why, even their former leader can fly from his roost to a safe berth at the top of the other party.

And just for the record, let me say I also believe that David Thompson is capable of running the country as prime minister.

If the leadership question is fairly put on the table, however, it should also be asked: How good a leader has Owen Arthur been? Because some poll says it’s two-to-one over Thompson means nothing to me, as I am here talking about my own perception, whether you agree with me or not (it’s a little thing called freedom of expression, and more people should try it.)

Owen Arthur is not the leader he started out as being when he first came to office. He is missing in action far too often. A couple of years ago, the letters M.I.A. would certainly have been apt for this condition, but now they seem to have changed to C.L.Y.D.E.

Arthur seems to rule by fiat, and has done too many policy reverses without explaining his reasoning to the country for me to be comfortable with calling him a great leader. His arrogance in office now seems to permeate almost everything he does, and his decisions seem to make overall sense only when judged by one criteria, which is, what’s good for big business is good for the country.

How else do you account for the demise in service at the QEH, where people are literally dying to be seen, compared to the rise of private emergency rooms? Or how about the quicksand of Edutech, where millions have been spent with little to show for it?

What about the enormous cost overruns on so many projects, from the prison to the highways? We have also seen the government’s unyeilding, hard-headed approach to those insanely stupid flyovers, and its willingness to give unknown and untested companies massive BOLT projects which will tie up our infrastructure in so many contractual knots that we will be paying through our teeth for them long after Arthur has retired? And with no discussion, no give-and-take in debate, no explanations, I can only conclude that we live by arbitrary Arthurian decree. Is that good leadership?

The Arthur government has allowed the bogey man of globalisation to scare citizens into tolerating a concentration of corporate ownership unlike any we have witnessed before on this island, and the main question I have for Thompson is: Will you let it continue, just changing the names of the players? If you win the government and do so, your administration will be no better for Barbados over the long term than the present one.

So far, Thompson has said the opposite. His party is stressing the detoxification of the body politic from the infusion of the many corporate carcinogens it has ingested of late. Will the Dems really take us into public rehab? Will there come a day in Barbados once more when the government accepts that there are things which it must take responsibility for doing because to privatise all the way upstream results in selling us all down the river?

Where do you draw the line? Is it at the hospital bed and the school gate only, or is it in the many other services now provided, sometimes poorly, by the state? Can you manage a hybrid process under which private enterprise plays a role in an overall sector controlled by the state, not only through strong regulatory agencies, but by retaining ownership of key players, like water and transport and roads and prisons?

And what future will Bajans have in their own country if buying a house and a piece of land to put it on are priced outside their means, and if every young couple must get into hock up to their teeth for 30 years in order to buy anything out there?

Yes, the two sides in my view are equal in the quality of their human resources and the opposition has equal potential to the incumbent party’s experience, but how we move forward in the next few years requires, in my view, clear action on those types of issues. And a lot of the answers will call for more consumer discipline and responsibility, because you can’t sustain lower prices if you continue to create more demand than there is supply.

In my view, the leader who can answer these tough questions and show a middle way through the competing interests of average citizens and private corporate interests is the one who will deserve to be the prime minister.

What a place we live in, I am now hearing that the event that saw DR DON MARSHALL life being threatened will now be dealt with at a press conference at 3.00 pm today.

We are also getting reports of paid thugs being hired to destroy the billboards in that fake for a priest Atherley area.

This is one desperate for power lot and they are thugs and are acting this way.

  • The truth of the matter is that this complete adminstration is devoid of a moral base and as a result the stealing is uncontrolled and unabated.

The real and only reason that projects such as the VECO PRISON, THE DANOS 3S ROAD WORKS PROJECT, THE OIL STORAGE FACILITY and the list goes on , it is simply because these are international gangsters well versed in the art of hiding money in secret bank accounts for people such as HALLAM NICHOLLS, OWING ARTHUR, GLYNE BANNISTER, NOELESS BLARNEY LYNCH, DAVID SHOREY and the list goes on.

As we all know both of these operating companies are before the courts in the USA and BRITIAN for FRAUD, CORRUPTION,BRIBERY OF GOV’T OFFICIALS IN THE COUNTRIES OF WHICH THEY OPERATE, IF THEY HAVE MASTERED THE ART OF CORRUPION AND FRAUD AND HAVE DONE SO WITH POLITICIANS IN THESE COUNTRIES, THAT ARE MORE AWARE OF THESE CRIMES AND THEY MANAGE THESE CRIMES SO MUCH BETTER THAN US IN BARBADOS WHY THEN DO WE FEEL THAT IT WOULD BE HARD TO BRIBE OR CORRUPT ONES AS DISHONEST AS OWING AND HIS CLANS OF CROOKS ARE?

The result of these crimes is then at election time such as now ones of the ilk of the HALLAM NICHOLLS’S of this world with his new found ill gotten wealth can make the declearation that he will finance the BLP campaign to the tune of what ever it takes to keep he and his party in office and in particular he will be spending a MILLION DOLLARS EACH to unseat two of the DLP candidates, now how ironic this is to run a campaign funded by ill gotten proceeds of fraud against the Barbadian public, to buy back their votes with their own money this is as sad as it can get in our political system.

WHEN THEY CAN STEAL FROM US THE TAXPAYERS AND THEN BUY BACK YOUR VOTE WITH YOUR OWN MONEY, IT IS QUITE A STATEMENT AS TO THE LEVEL OF ARROGANCE THAT THEY SHOW towards us the ones that pay their salary and fuel their CORRUPTION,FRAUD, BRIBERY and STEALING.
