OWEN AND THE BEES HAVE BEEN WEIGHED IN THE BALANCE AND FOUND WANTING

YOU ARE NOT A BEE! TO THOSE PERSONS WHO ONCE VOTED FOR THE BLP AND ARE DISAPPOINTED WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF THE ARTHUR ADMINISTRATION, ESPECIALLY OVER THE LAST FIVE YEARS Several people are agonising over a decision as to whether they should continue to support the Barbados Labour Party in light of its massive failure in its last term of office.  These persons cannot accept the behaviour of the Arthur Administration during this period where its policies and actions did nothing but created hardship and disappointment for them.   People who voted for the BLP in the 2003 election are justifiably annoyed at:

  • The government’s failure to deal in an effective manner with the crippling cost of living, after first saying that there was nothing that could be done.
  • The BLP promoting the sale of our scarce land resources to non Barbadians
  • The high price of land and houses putting them out of the reach of ordinary Barbadians, especially young people
  • The BLP’s failure to deal with the poor state of our health and other services
  • The neglect of basic infrastructure such as roads, drainage and the inconvenience caused by this neglect
  • The waste of tax payer’s money on dubious projects while neglecting basic amenities for ordinary people
  • The massive and unexplained cost overruns where the money could have been spent on social needs
  • The decline in good Barbadian values and the acknowledgement by Mr Arthur that Barbados now has a “bashment” culture.

There is hope for such people.   They need to know why they feel conflicted by the situation and where they can turn for help.  BLP supporters have suffered, and are suffering, like all the other Barbadians who are now demanding change in government. After Tom Adams won the 1976 election, mainly on the grounds that the DLP had been in office for too long and that there was need for a stronger opposition, he conceived a strategy to crystalise his support.  He persuaded those persons who had voted for him and the BLP that they were Bees and those who did not vote for him were Dees.  He created a mythical bond between those persons who had voted for the BLP and the party itself.  Several people bought into this artificial division. The political polarisation of this country was the result.  The BLP was never interested in political education after this.  The Adams’ strategy has divided families and communities which have common needs and concerns.  It has created political differences where no philosophical, social, cultural, or economic differences exist.  The BLP encourages and thrives in such an environment.   The BLP does not initiate action on, and tries not to debate the issues that concern ordinary people.  They did not respond to the issues raised in the Hardwood case. They did not take the lead in dealing with high prices, the land issue, quality of care at the QEH, social decay, and the host of other matters that ordinary people complain about. The BLP wants the country to concentrate on matters such as leadership, on who has an experienced team, on republican status for Barbados, and on all the irrelevant things that do not improve the quality of people’s lives. They supplement this with hand outs, political attacks and propaganda at election time.  The BLP plays down issues you have a stake in, and in which you are interested for your own welfare.    That is the fundamental difference between the DLP and the BLP.  The DLP is people centred.  It focuses on the social and economic issues that affect you.  People are invited to think about and comment on the issues that concern them.  The DLP is not about itself.  The Democratic Labour Party is about making life better for Barbadians.  During the early 1990’s the DLP introduced a number of measures which restructured the Barbados economy and secured the rate of the Barbados dollar.  In 1994 several people who felt aggrieved by the 8% pay cut decided to withdraw their support from the DLP.  They thought that they were operating in their best interest.  That was their prerogative.   Everyone has a right to do this.  When you find that the policies and actions, or lack of action of the government are putting you at a disadvantage you are entitled to look after the interest of your family and yourself.  Politics is about you, the people. Every election gives an opportunity for you to assess what is best for you.  Every election is like a new beginning.  If you cannot accept what the BLP has done and is doing you have a responsibility to support what will make life better for you and your family.  You do not have to blindly follow anyone.  You need to think for yourself.   Once you have thought about your situation you will find comfort in the policies of the Democratic Labour Party.   You will find that the DLP’s policies and emphases have your interests in mind. You will like what the Democratic Labour Party will be doing for:

  • Families
  • Children and Young People
  • Women
  • Senior citizens
  • Workers
  • Communities

You will like what the Democratic Labour Party is proposing to:

  • Reduce the cost of living
  • Educate our children
  • Ensure adequate health and other social services
  • Provide Barbadians with affordable land and adequate housing
  • Develop and promote sporting activities

You will be pleased that the Democratic Labour Party will be:

  • Ensuring a sound and sustainable economy
  • Protecting our way of life
  • Securing our democracy
  • Looking after your interest and making your life more comfortable

Help the Democratic Labour Party to help you: Vote in your interest.  You are not a BEE!

  • okay

we know they have more money but where is the list and faces of all candidates and the polling booths?

  • sorry I see the candidates

now where do we find the ridings dilineated and the polling booths listed?

  • There can be no question, that the Bees have been found wanting, this is because they have failed to satisfactorily address the problems that beset ordinary Barbadians. This has led to a deterioration of the cohesive cement, that binds a society together. Rather than address these problems, they have tried to divert attention, to other issues.

The question of leadership, has already been comprehensively dealt with, as David Thompson has shown by his management of the DLP’s campaign, that he has the ability, not only to plan but to execute. Perhaps one of his most important attributes, is he has a skill which egenders confidence in others, therefore they will follow him.

His integrity is not in doubt, that has already been conceded by the BLP, so I will not labour the point.

Accusations of a lack of experience in the DLP team, has been fleetingly mentioned, but because there is no evidence to substantiate that accusation, it has fallen apart.

I am more interested in “evidence” and since there is none, I will simply point to the effective way the DLP has fought their campaign. The BLP by contrast, has used their much vaunted “experience” to magnify division and discord in their ranks.

We should simply ask more pertinent questions, what type of society do we want for ourselves and our children? Do we want a society which encourages and helps those with ability, and yet has consideration for those less well off?

Do we want a society which cares for the health and welfare of its citizens, particularly the poor, young and elderly?

Do we want a Government, that is able to priortize, how its resources should be spent, and is prudent in the spending of tax payer’s money?

Do we want a Government that takes care of “all” its citizens, but ensures that Barbadians are not disadvantaged when so doing?

Do we want a Government, that is an example to the often much maligned youth, do we want to encourage our sons and daughters to believe in themselves, and not feel they have to be foreign or wealthy, else they will be ignored?

We want a Government, of the people, for the people, which instills confidence by the way they conduct business, and the way they conduct themselves. We want a Barbados we can be proud of, it has always been of worth to be a Bajan, and long may it be so.

On Tuesday 15th Jan 2008, we are voting for more than a new Government, we are voting for a way of life, honesty, decency, integrity and moral values. We are voting for the type of Barbados, our founding fathers of Independence envisaged. We should not let them down, we must carry the torch forward, if not for us, for our children. It is the Democratic Labour Party of Barbados, led by David Thompson, who can make that change, and I earnestly hope they are given the opportunity to do so.

Dems for deliverance. Thompson’s triumph, will be justice at last for the”invisible people” who for the last decade, have suffered in silence.

It would be justice of a particular kind, if Irene Sandiford-Garner is elected for St. Andrew, it would demonstrate we Barbadians still acknowledge, decency, courage, ability and persevation in the face of what seemed unsurmountable difficulties, that is what Barbados is about.

It is time for a change.

  • After years of brain-washing the Barbadian public that the Dems are not ready, particularly because they lack leadership, Arthur happily called a short span, sudden election. This election, called during our most sacred celebration, was meant to capitalise on Thompson’s so-called incapacity to lead, as well as to catch him unprepared, a lethal combination which Arthur calculated would utterly expose Thompson as weak and incompetent and enable himself to win a 4th term. What actually transpired, was the absolute opposite and Arthur, as we Bajans like to say: ‘get a big rock’ because his sinister little plan backfired.

Instead, during this period we have seen the Dems, under the exemplary leadership of Mr Thompson launch a focused, solid and extraordinary campaign, the likes of which Barbados has never seen before. In fact, the DLP has shown such innovation, great planning and general readiness for this election, one would think it was the Dems that called it. The Dems have out shone the BLP at every turn, forcing the BLP to constantly play catch up and to have to resort to mimicking them, therefore showing the Dems to be the proactive force here. All of this begs the question, who is really in charge here and what does this say about leadership, which Arthur maintains, is the most critical issue in this election.

    Let us therefore judge leadership:

    (1) Thompson inherited a divided DLP which the various political scientist seemed to have pronounced dead over the last years. He nonetheless has managed not only to do the impossible by uniting this party, but also, by raising it from the dead. With this resuscitated DLP, Thompson has selected a team of respectable, successful, decent men and women who show an integrity and determination to serve the people in a re-democratised Barbados.

    (2) Thompson has been the initiator in this election with his unprecedented campaign eg. the use of the most magnificent charge sheet; bill boards etc. all of which left the BLP scampering for ideas. In fact, it took the Dems leadership on how to effectively use a newspaper and television ad campaign before the Bees gained any momentum in this election that they themselves called. The Dems launched their manifesto first which really made one wonder what the BLP, who called the elections were doing. Needless to say, the Dems just hit them for another six when they launched their youth manifesto and alas, by keeping it as a dark horse did not give the BLP time to be able to duplicate this one. So Barbados, who is leading who? It looks like them big fashion BLPs who always pompasetting about leadership are nothing but followers themselves.

All those people who have repeatedly stated that the Dems are not ready to lead, definitely need to wise up, the country NEEDS a change of government and Thompson and the DLP have more than demonstrated that they are indeed a viable, competent alternative. In fact, every since the day Thompson declared that as far as he is concerned, Parliament has been dissolved, he has demonstrated DAILY, that he and his team are ready, willing and MOST ABLE!!

It is now left to Barbadians who have been repeatedly described as one of the most mature and well informed electorates on the planet, to change this government and wipe that cocky, arrogant smirk off of the faces of this wasteful, uncaring, cold-hearted, dictatorial government.

For the past years this BLP government has literally thrown away taxpayers hard earned money, because this heartless government which dears to mention the 8% cut that Sandi promised would be reimbursed when the country stabilised, has been killing us with a daily, minute by minute 15% vat which we will NEVER get back, coupled with outrageous tariffs, income taxes etc. This government, after squeezing these taxes out of us has given away our money: (a) in costs overruns on various projects (b) in ridiculous projects like the Greenland landfill, where they essentially filled the land with millions of dollars (c) by closing down the St. Joseph hospital after taxpayers money had just been spent refurbishing it (d) by in this age of technological advancements, mismanaging the QEH and turning what use to be a premier hospital into a farce and unfortunately, the list goes on and on.

And Arthur is claiming we only want change for the sake of change. Is he for real, this is not about making history with a 4th term, this is about meeting the needs of the Barbadian electorate. The BLP’s record is far from what they are claiming. Barbados today is tantamount to a dictatorship, there is no freedom of speech here, this is in NO WAY a democracy. The public know only too well that people here now speak in whispers because if they openly criticise this government, they run the risk of losing their little pick and such like. Many Barbadians cannot afford a piece of the rock, land and houses are OUT OF OUR PRICE RANGE, yet Arthur brags that foreigners are buying houses here so that they can live in Barbados for part of each year and he is proud of that. Proud of the fact that Barbadians who live here all the time can’t get homes, but foreigners can shut up houses for most of the year and come down here during the winter.

All of this, is evidence of POOR leadership, of OUT OF CONTROL, COLD- HEARTED leadership. We the people of Barbados have the power to put a stop to this once and for ALL. The only way to do so is to: VOTE DLP!!

  • Congratulation on Barbados’ win! Looking forward to a new Barbados with new hope for poor and middle class Barbadians.

  • On this glorious morning 16th January 2008, may I congratulate David Thompson – The Prime Minister – and the DLP team. What Mr.Thompson has done, has a stroke of genius about it, make no mistake, he kept his cool and moved onto the offensive, at the right time, and on the issues that had a resonance with the electorate.

I think it was in October 2007, I said he was doing everything perfectly, and events will prove that to be the case, and so they have.

I am also aware, that there must have been advisors and planners, behind the scenes, these things are often “team efforts”, you too take a bow, well done, all of you.

    God Bless Barbados.

  • Congratulations Team DLP

Christmas was disrupted, people placed on edge
Owen needed to be dislodged, he was like and impaling wedge
Now thanks to God we can sleep peacefully
God has delivered us from his political tyranny
Right thinking Bajans started a new mandate
And voted to elect their DLP candidate
They demonstrated that with the 20 to 10 win
Usefulness had expired, the shelf life was gone for Owen
Laughter now adorns this Nation’s face
A fresh air envelops the entire place
The excellent campaigning by the DLP team
Ignited new hopes and happiness, we can now dream
Of a community with more love and caring
    Negativity surpassed with positive thinking
Simple charity between neighbors and together we
Take on progress and a true democracy
Exercising the strengths of each individual voice
Assured that individual’s have their own choice
May God Bless your persistence and bring more success
Draw a clear map along the Pathways to Progress
Lots of hard work is ahead but you’ll emerge supreme
Praise God for this Government of a DLP Team

  • Integrity Out

    If Mascoll had more integrity
Now he would be sitting as Thompson’s deputy
Taking on the challenges of good governance
    Economical challenges and fiscal tolerance
Got a bombshell during elections last night
Returning officer announced the end of his fight
It’s obvious to most that he is out
Totally dismantled from his conceited clout
Yesterday he was a leader and today what is he
Only a man claiming to have integrity
Unfortunately his actions don’t speak the same
Though he wouldn’t, there’s much to make him run in shame

  • Congratulations from here in New York to the DLP team. I wish Mr. Thompson well and I know that he will pay rapt attention to the very serious issues which are confronting Barbadians in these trying times.

  • I find the drivel dribbled by Ezra Alleyne into days Nation to be most diabolical, and to have emanated from Satan himself.
    http://www.nationnews.com/editorial/15016407145245.php

We all know that Ezra has a penchant for approximating his labiae orae to the adipose tissue overlying the gluteus maximi of his party (in simple Bajan – he is an ass licker!)

Lets dissect his diatribe, for though God was able to make Balaam’s ass to speak, God, and Bajans aree both having great difficulty in getting this ass to shut up.

He begins by pretending to be one of a few mystic madmen (even with poetic license) who “have the ability to hear with eyes, and see with ears.” THIS IS PHYIOLOGICAL NONSENSE. There is no mystery here. It does not happen!

Then he states categorically that the PM’s decision not to grant Kellman to sit at the head table while the fatted calf is shared, and not to even give him the calf’s tail is an incident of the exercise of the awesome power of the Office of Prime Minister, and evidence that Thompson is obviously trying to shoot a general to encourage the troops to fall into line, and using the power of patronage – to give office or to deny office – to try to stamp his authority on his Cabinet and parliamentary group.

Ezra’s thesis is that once a party loyalist has stayed the course he should be rewarded accordingly –irregardless.

On the other hand Kellman was reported in the press as being comfortable with the situation, and to recognize the PM’s prerogative in being able to give or take away like the Lord, as per Barrow’s favorite quotation from the sapiental literature at Job 1:21.

Kellman admitted that he understands the awesome power of the Office of Prime Minister to appoint or not to appoint. He acknowledged the existence of the prime ministerial prerogative to hire or fire Cabinet members at will. Surely Kellman knew what to expect.

Why does exclusion of such a loyalist necessarily mean that “the rain is setting up?” Are we not reading too much into the situation “this early” (to quote Ezra) ? Or does Ezra think by his pitiful, pithy puerile prose that he will cause the DLP to implode again, and to quote him again, “this early?”

Now Kellman might be telling lies. But he might very well not have expected to sit at the head table, or the round table for that matter. I don’t know. But why would the PM stamp his authority on his Cabinet and parliamentary group by shooting a general as Ezra opines? And “this early” according to Ezra? I would tend to think that such malevolence (or malevIolence) if that was the intent, might just as well cause the potential generals to mutiny or at least distrust the leader, if not engage in internecine warfare.

Why does Ezra use words inaccurately and emotively by suggesting that Kellman was axed? From what was he axed ? What position did he hold from which he was axed?

Why does Ezra seemingly seek to sensitize the stupid to senseless opinions by emotive words like “axed,” “snake pit of politics, ” “strange bedfellows” and his coined “Kellmanesque personalities?”

Although Dr David Estwick is a physician, Ezra is surprised that the PM appointed him to the Ministry of Health. This was surely a better appointment than when OS Arthur appointed Liz in the same capacity, since Liz was very unlikely to distinguish a “mosquito” from a long straight!” (forceps). Liz’s most enduring “legacy” in the Ministry of Health was to spend a day working on a garbage truck!

With respect to this appointment Ezra “goes further” to point out that Thompson has shown who is boss. Then in the same breath he suggests that the discerning would perceive that “this appointment must have included some bargaining – on both sides.” Ezra tell us “Is Thompson boss, or not?” If he is boss why is he bargaining with Estwick “this early” and “snapping the whip at Kellman “this early.” You are confusing your self, not me. You are less coherent than Balaam’s equine companion on the way to meet Baalak to do his nefarious bidding ! At least Balaam’s ass was consistent.

At last, and at least, Ezra got something right when he said that “the appointments of Maxine McClean and Darcy Boyce are intriguing.” So do we Ezra. So do we.

That was like that famous first ball which Warne bowled to Gatting in 1990, that pitched wide of the leg stump and hit his off stump, as Gatting expecting it to strike his pad, played no stroke.

All BLP supporters who were saying that there is no economists in the DLP, and those, like Ezra, who thought that the PM would put the economy of Barbados in the hands of David Estwick are as flabergasted now as poor Gatting then.

Unfortunately we have no photographs of your faces when the announcement was made, unlike the beautiful photos we have off Gatting’s face when he heard the death rattle that signaled that playing no shot was the wrong decision. The appointments of Maxine McClean and Darcy Boyce is the political “ball” of all Bajan politics.

Ezra, I am sure that Irene Sandiford-Garner, Undine Whittaker and Patricia Inniss are not wondering us much about these two appointees as you and your BLP associates are.

I heard of the first ball that Gilchrist bowled at Kensington. I saw that spell by Jeff Thompson at Kensington in 1978, and those two overs by Holding to Boycott in 1981.

    But I tell you this “political ball” that David bowled last weekend must surpass them all! You guys now dont know if to look for the legbreak or the googly. {Note that I have it correctly. Not like your Gabby, who in his hit of 1983 Hit it! said when I play for offbreak it was googly, thereby embarraasing many Bajans abroad who are often asked as I have been ” Wait he dont know that a googly is an off break bowled by a leg spinner?}

And Ezra, I find you most ungracious in defeat by this most unexpected tactic as to suggest that Miss McClean’s role as a “non party” moderator of call-in programmes catapulted her into the Cabinet, as though she is not deserving on merit and by her record.

“And I go further” to tell you that the last remark about Mr Boyce will come back to haunt you. And you will soon be eating crow very soon. If you can manipulate words in your apparent ignorance on the perception of right and wrong, and truth and false, then Darcy Boyce can successful marry his learning to do his job as well as he has elsewhere. If he is not facilitated to do so, I am sure he will , and can like Winston Cox, resign and go elsewhere. But I am sure that he will not lick the ass of a dictator as you and your fellow BLPites did as you waited for crumbs to fall from your political master’s table, as you had no other benefactor, or no ability to survive elsewhere.

  • Georgie Porgie
we will soon have to call the police for you for attempted murder on Ezra, you killing the man.

  • Donald Duck, Esq

The following are comments made by Prime Minister Thompson in the Sunday Advocate of February 3, 2007 on the subject of his party’s 100 day programme.

He said some of the initiatives merely “require initiation, not completion” He went on to add “ I think people ,misunderstand these things, so they think that if you say that you are going to, for example lay integrity legislation that it means you will pass it in a 100 days. It doesn’t mean that because it is not only the Members of Parliament who have a relevant role to play in that, it is the public, it’s the media, and I can’t circumscribe your 100 days, I can only circumscribe mine”

He further added “And in relation to other areas of implementation, what we are aiming at, subject to the availability of resources, is the initiation of those items that fall under the 100 day programme so that we can therefore keep the faith from there”

May I remind readers of the various DLP promises taken from their manifesto with relevant reference page numbers categorized between those the DLP promised immediate action and those which they promised to deal with within 100 days ( they did not say from when the 100 days commenced)

    IMMEDIATE ACTTION

Labour rights legislation ( page 36)

A new DLP government will move to immediately enact a comprehensive national Labour Rights legislative compendium which will include the following:

 A Full Employment Rights Act
 An Alternative Disputes Settlement and Arbitration Committee
 A Sexual Harassment in the Workplace Act
     National minimum wages legislation
 Legislation fully recognizing Trade Unions.

Approval of capital account transactions (page 25)

Immediately review the current Central Bank procedures for approving capital account transactions with a view to simplifying and speeding up the approval (or denial) process for restricted transactions.

    Port charges (page 33)

The DLP pledges to immediately re-examine the Port charges with a view to significantly reducing these to manufacturers as they consider them to be a burdensome cost. They say that tonnage dues are charged twice; – on raw materials when imported and again on finished products when being exported.

    Integrity legislation (page 48)

    Immediately introduce integrity legislation requiring

 a declaration of assets by public officials,
 a Code of Conduct for Ministers,
 a new Freedom of Information law,
 amendments to the Defamation laws and
 new constitutional provisions to rationalize the powers of the Prime Minister.

    Health issues (page 11)

A new DLP Government will immediately embark on a health promotion campaign to sensitize the public to the dangers of unhealthy lifestyles

ISSUES TO BE DEALT WITH IN FIRST 100 DAYS

Don’t forget the DLP promises to do the following in the first 100 days

 Introduce the Agriculture Protection Act that will require a 2/3 majority of both houses of parliament for a change of use of land from agriculture.

 Remove VAT from building materials on houses valued up to $400,000.
 convene a National Consultation on Education

  • Whipping for Ezra’s transgreesions in Friday’s Nation

Ezra Alleyne continues in his weekly cogitations in the Nation to be an embarrassment to Balaam’s ass.

Ezra Alleyne’s attitude is clearly since I do not know what the new Government is doing, then it should be obvious to all that they do not know what they are doing. This is of course a non sequitur. Ezra is just a nit picker and nothing like the scribe of Biblical vintage who bore the same name.

Ezra in his quest for something to criticize about the new Government is concerned that two weeks after the general election that the DLP had not announced a full complement of Government senators.

Then he is intrigued that Miss Maxine McClean though a junior minister has been named as a Leader of Government Business in the Senate and thereby given more senior status in the Senate than Mr Haynesley Benn, a full minister.

Ezra then seeks to decide for the DLP administration that Miss Whittaker, Miss Inniss and Mrs Sandiford-Garner should get senatorial appointments because of a Democratic Labour Party (DLP) Manifesto statement that “it will be working towards having 50 per cent of the DLP slate female by 2016.” Ezra seems incognizant that the DLP has a full 8 years to keep this manifesto promise, thus making his argument very shallow. His reasons for suggesting that these ladies merit selection to these posts are most insulting, and evidences his disrespect for the abilities, and service of these persons to Bajan life.

Ezra next demonstrates his ignorance of auction sales, for I have never seen an auctioneer that is so silly and dishonest as to think that his clientele would be fooled into thinking that an old brass bowl is an ancient gold goblet.

Ezra, in his seeking to decide for the current PM as to the role Miss Whittaker, Miss Inniss and Mrs Sandiford-Garner should play in the new administration, and his deep concern as to who should be knighted and become the president of the Senate, reminds me of many contemporary cricket commentators.

The new breed of cricket commentator, lacking in vocabulary or wit, and devoid of descriptive diction are often at a lost to present the play as it occurs. They can be heard emotively saying things such as “wiil it,”“ “wont it,” “does the ball have legs to carry,” and similar nonsenses; rather than calmly explaning what is happening. Ezra, is similarly not content to wait and see what the plays will provide, but engages in wishy washy wondering characteristic of his wandering “wisdom.” Here is a man well described by the Biblical axiom expoused in Romans 1:22 which reads thus…..PROFFESSING THEMSELVES TO BE WISE, THAY BECAME FOOLS.

Last week, Prime Minister David Thompson by appointing senior parliamentarian, Denis Kellman responsible for maritime negotiations with Trinidad and Tobago, simultaneously showed Ezra to be a stupid dunce; as this announcement debunked Ezra’s drivel of the week before about “Kellman’s axing, and being a shot general.

Ezra then suggests that the state-owned CBC did not carry a news item about the likely increase in the cost of imported meat being due to the upward price spiral in the cost of oil and corn; an issue over which the authorities had no control. Ezra tripped himself up by then opining that “before the election, Mr Paul’s every statement made the nightly television news, and the omission of this latest statement piqued my political curiosity.”
Is Ezra suggesting that the state-owned CBC supported Mr Paul both before as well as after, the election? We know that Sesame Street was not around in his time, but has he not had the time to view their simple show which illustrates the meanings of the words “BEFORE” & “AFTER.” Does he not remember in his haste to try to make a cheap point, that the state-owned CBC was controlled by the BLP before the election?

Thus the jackass falls flat on his face again, causing Balaam’s donkey to give in his resignation, and ask to be another animal. Balaam’s donkey figures that if Ezra is an ass, that he cant be an ass as well, since the class of Ezra’s cogitations are way below those of the standard donkey. We will have to read a lot of Ezra’s bovine excrement in the next five years!

  • DRAMA QUEEN POLITICS

    DRAMA QUEEN POLITICS

The recent display by Mia Mottley on public television was testimony to the emerging leadership problem deep in the armour of the Barbados Labour Party. The jury has returned its’ verdict and it is clear that the bungling of the Budget reply has now cast a shadow over the capacity of the once power house Mia to deliver. Her constant need to score points strategy has backfired and has ended up placing her on trial among her peers.

The attempt to smear the name of Rural Development Commission and its chairman by quoting from a partial piece of correspondence slipped to her in the dark of the night by one of her cohorts has opened wide, her political armour . She fell on the sword of poor political judgment. In this instance her exuberance to expose Barbados to a fable of a $2500 lock was indeed seen as very distasteful.

The staged drama of declaring her 3.5million dollars assets repeatedly will go down in history as the worst dramatic screen play ever seen by a local audience. The reviews of this Declaration of Assets episode were even more pathetic as she boastfully sought to justify her vast accumulation of assets in such a SHORT period. The concerns raised in last week’s column regarding her political strategist judgment are even more relevant as her support base within the parliamentary group and the Party continues on a downward spiral.

The Opposition leader must understand that her elevation has nothing to do with any genuine belief in her ability; but rather she has been conveniently placed at the helm as ‘a political stepney’ to satisfy the former leader’s quest to complete the mission – Operation Destroy MIA [ODM]. The quest to destroy the new leader was hatched on the corridors of the Barbados Labour Party’s Roebuck Street headquarters. It was then given further impetus on many occasions when the former Prime Minister sought to let her stew on a number of ‘very … politically sensitive’ issues.

Her response, the Vidal Sassoon transformation has taken full flight. Her stylist must be very pleased as the look is now being publicly acknowledged. The recent comments by Mac Fingall at Soca on the Hill regarding Mia’s new found pearl and hand bag image illustrates the dawning of a new drama queen of politics.

The drama queen of politics has now fully immersed herself into trying to fill the shoes of her predecessor. Her poor leadership attempts in the last six months have escalated into calls for her removal. The ODM is now in full gear as she seeks to respond by planning her recovery. The 3L combination of LASHLEYS – Stephen, Michael and ‘Hammie’ has further thrown her off base as they move in tandem on behalf of the poor and powerless of our land.

The photo in the dailies showing ‘Hammie,’ the grass roots champion of the Barbados Labour Party embracing his namesakes was not very pleasing to the new drama queen of politics.

Perhaps a political lesson from the newly crowned naked emperor at this time would be most appropriate as she struggles to MARSHALL her troops …OOPS what troops?
