  • It is always good to hear members of the DLP attempt to explain the unexplainable. I have a hint of respect for Chris Sinckler, but how can he stoop so low as to suggest that the DLP is a united party due to its current leadership. You can fool some of the people some of the times, but Chris you cannot fool them long enough to win St. Michael North West. If democracy is so strong, why don’t you challenge for the leadership of the DLP or are you too waiting to be used and abused? Maybe you do not have the guts, or it is that you might just attempt to unsettle ‘King David’ in the manner he chose to reclaim the throne of a Desperate League of Puppets?

  • I am so glad that you have brought this subject up because a few minutes ago I was on your blog and low and behold I wrote on your site as per the piece below.

Let me tell you from all that I have seen your party is in serious disarray made even worst by these blogs revealing the extent of you and your leaders level and willingness for corruption and dishonest acts.

You have backbenchers pledging loyality to Mottley in favour of Owen, you have the obviously stressed relationship between Owen and Mottley, Payne,Toppin, Rawle Eastmond you remember his speech that he did not know what he did wrong to Owen ?
And that Owen has done nothing for him in 9 years, sadly with this charge he is a sad excuse of a representative if he is to expect that the people could so stupid to voter for him for another term of of ineffective representation.

Owen has created many battles within his party over the years but many are so hand to mouth that they have no choice but to sit quiet and collect a salary and a crumb, as most of us consider them unemployable in the real world anyway so they have to stay where they are and milk the Barbadian taxpayer dry.

  • Thinking this thru

As Posted on the BLP site earlier waiting to see if they allow it to go up,it is response to an article they have up praising Mottley for working at idle hall.
Even a blind man would see thru this sham and act, as senseless and pointless.

Owen has hammered Mottley into quiet submission having promised her the leadership during this term but then his greed for power struck in and that program went thru the window instead he has chosen to launch broadside attacks constantly at her but in their ever desperate desire to win votes and win seats they conspire to write an article of semi praise towards Mottley.

How sick and sad is this really?

Made even moreso by Mottley being in such dire straights that she has no choice but to cower and take the lashes while she attempts to serve a master that she now would rather kill than take orders from.

Politics being politics they will appear chummy on the platform and for the cameras but the reality is they would rather not be within sight of each other.
My confusion is for someone that is supposely so brilliant and she opts to be the subject of Owen’s continued side swipes and humiliation, if she is this brilliant a person why has she not told Owen to piss off and get into doing what her parents paid for her to do that is Law, then again she will find that during her sabbatical in politics that many sharp young recruits have come to challenge her in her profession , maybe she is not as sharp even in this area hence her need to stay on as the door mat for Owen to wipe his feet and whatever else he chooses to wipe.

This is exactly what this party has always been good at and that is putting on a show full of the razzmatazz, the fireworks etc but when this is said and done we are left holding a massive bill and the rest of them have gone to places yonder basking in the sunshine drinking a rum and checking their bank accounts.

  • It does pain, no saddens, is probably closer to the mark to see our bright politicians not prepared to stand and take the broadside of a few BLP yardfowls who constantly talk about a divided DLP or that we are not united.

Let us be not afraid to stand up and tell the world, we have never been a party of all yes men and women. The DLP is a broad church of opinions united only by the need to see a democratic, fair and prosperous Barbados for all Barbadians.

It is extremely healthy that Kellman, David Thompson, Richard Sealy, Stuart, Sinckler, etc etc do not always sing from the same hymn sheet. It is a political party for god sake, with shades of differing opinions. We would not want to hear them all saying exactly the same things in exactly the same manner, so please lay off with this nonsense of the party not being united. Fellows, comrades, we have nothing to be afraid or ashamed about.

Debate and even differing views are heathy for any political party which is dynamic and innovative, creative even. Stand tall colleagues, proud in the knowledge that we are more real than many of the detractors who speak of disunity, or discord within the DLP. As a member of the British Labour Party for more than 20 years, I do believe I know a thing or two about different wings of one party. So my friends, stand tall in the face of the political pygmies that can find nothing worse to say than we are not united.

  • There has been a lot of discussion recently of the strategy being adopted by the DLP’s leader – I will come to being united shortly – before I do, we must remember that a date for the general election has not been called.

The Government has the advantage of setting the date of the election, and they will obviously do so when they can benefit, that they have not done so confirms – if that was needed – that the DLP is ahead, and they know it.

There has been talk that David Thompson should do all manner of things, and these calls are on a regular basis, and change frequency daily – this is understandably – but at this juncture the strategy – which is being done – should be to keep the Government off balance, and let them wonder on what, from where, and when will come the final assault.

The Government’s missdeads, and they are many have not been forgotten, but they should be revisited at a time which will give them freshness, but yet enough time for them to sink into the electorate’s consciousness.

You must always time the push when the electorate is in election mode, and therefore “receptive” to opinions and ideas that can change mindsets, it is that change which will win the election. If you look at the last election’s results, you will notice only a single digit swing is required for many seats to change.

“Timing is everything,” and the leader must be given the latitude and support which allows him to launch a concerted, unified attack, at the precise moment for maximum impact.

To leadership: the team above individuals, the electorate the focus, unqualified support for the leader, we must always remember that general elections, when you are in a winning position to form a Government, are few in a lifetime of politics, such times are not to be fritered away.

  • Yardbroom, you certainly do sweep clean! What an excellent analysis. As usual! Thank God for level heads like yours.

  • I will also say that due to the obvious corruption that has been exposed by these blogs and the DLP that more people are coming out in support of the DLP and are now prepared to lend their assistance to to displace this gang of crooks that are in office.
This help is coming in every form and fashion from traditional stong blp supporters to marginal ones, people are seeing the light and are begging for change to free themselves of these corrupt bastards.
The party must act now to make those feeling uneasy and uncertain to be welcomed and be willing to share their vision and direction with these folks.
They are those talking about voting for the DLP that have never voted for anything other than the blp this in its self is a clear statement of where the party is at in 2007 a long way from where it was in the 90’s, I did not just happen with the removal of Mascoll from the party the party became a renewed vigours vocal active party gone were the days that Mascoll would be leader of the DLP but be taking orders from Owing in the operation of the party.
He Mascoll is just as corrupt and spineless as they in the party he joined and sought shelter with.
May god give Mr Thompson and his party the strength the will and the courage to carry this fight to its successful conclusion to rid this island of the corruption that is the blp.

  • Over on the BFP blog, they are telling us that Owen Arthur is staying in a hotel in New York, costing … wait for it … FIFTEEN THOUSAND US DOLLARS PER NIGHT. This is unbelievably CRIMINAL. It should be shouted from every DLP platform from now until elections are held – and thereafter. I could not believe my eyes when I read it and it was a good thing I hadn’t just eaten, or every bit of food would have come right back up. This is cruel punishment for Barbadian taxpayers. What is the next criminal activity this man is going to get up to?

  • Yard Broom much of what you say is as usual intelligent. However there are also serious misgivings/dangers in some of what the DLP Campaign organizers are doing.

You are right when saying the Government in power holds the card as to when the election is to be held. And they hold an even more powerful card when it comes to being able in making attractive election promises and baffling the brains of the masses with BS. They have shown that they wrote the book on this. If King Arthur can get 50,000 or so votes by promising the poor an additional few dollars on social benefits and go after that segment of the electorate by throwing them a few crumbs, look out! And it is also known that the BLP have been accused for buying votes which too is a powerful weapon! That is why the DLP need get after these buffoons sooner than later.

In addition to these facts here are a few others that is also “Major”. The BLP has an abundance of campaign funding the DLP does not. The BLP have shown as was obvious in the last election that they can run a superb, professional campaign because they seem to have the human resources to go with their financial resources. I put that down to the fact that the most influential and powerful in Barbados want to see the BLP remain in power for obvious reasons.

Another thing that the DLP showed the last time around and is showing signs of it again is being too timid and seeming to fear BLP intimidation. Remember the last election? the platform was using “Crime” as a major issue which was the correct theme as everyone knows and knows even better ten years later.

The BLP got wind of Lazlo being a USA Citizen and opened fire on the DLP. Instead of standing and fighting and supporting Lazlo they cut her loose and allowed her to be run out of Barbados.

This is what I first suggest the DLP focus on because it calls into question their credibility. Why did Mr. David Thompson in New York publicly state that he would be making his “manisfesto” public sooner than later. When I read the press release I got the impression he intended releasing it as soon as he got back to Barbados. I was wrong because there is still no sign of what the DLP are running on and Mr. Thompsons promise is now months old and is not going away with people reminding him about it in the press up to today.

I also find that when Mascoll can go on the public record and defend a road project on behalf of and in the absence of the Minister responsible and in the manner he did without being crucified by the Opposition to be a sign that the DLP are not taking advantage of numerous opportunities the BLP yard fowls are handing them on a silver platter, or they are not organized.

Mascoll is justifying a road works project that went from I think $60 million to $180 million by suggesting that after the contract was let the Government made extensive changes. He does not explain why these changes were required in the first place and why were they not included at the time the original contract was put to tender. He then says that an increase in steel prices also impacted the escalating contract price without showing one bit of proof to support this claim. And the increase would have had to be massive to siginificantly impact such a huge overrun. But here was the laugh of the century.

Mascoll said that when the changes to the contract were made the Government said that the impact of the changes could effect the original price by one or two fould and Barbadians took that to mean the contract would double or triple, which was not the intent of the terminology used. Yet no where did he ACTUALLY say what the increase was. When you have a Finance Minister talking in terms and using the slang of a second grade dropout to try and explain a major over run on a major contract and still not tell the Barbadian people the actual amount of the over run is nothing short of hiding the real facts from the Barbadian populace. Yet the DLP sat on their butts and let them get away with it or ALMOST did.

This is but one of many such BLP blunders that they have put into the public forum not to mention those exposed by the press and the DLP sit idly by instead of jumping on them and showing Barbadians what has been going on now for ten years and getting worse.

Here I see people jumping up and down like gorillas on innuendo that King Arthur is in the USA staying at a hotel costing $15,000 per night. No one can tell us if it is true and no one probably ever will therefore this revelation is strictly rumour with no basis in fact. How can it possibly be used as an election issue until proven to be fact?

I suggest to the DLP that they need to exploit issues that are factual like the nonsense Mascoll tried perpetrating on the people about the $120 million dollar over run. The matter of the squatters that even the BLP Minister for that portfolio showed more compassion for than King Arthur, who wanted them removed.

Not to mention the tragedy at Brittons Hill that could have be averted had the BLP brought in proper building codes, material standards and enforcement. They have had ten years to do these things!

Another issue the BLP THEMSELVES are now saying is what I have said on these blogs for months that food and other costs in Barbados are being caused by “Monopolies” “Price Fixing” and other less than honest practices. Minister Lynette Eastmond did an investigation into this matter and I have never read anything about what the investigation determined or found. All of these issues should be in the public forum NOW by the DLP.

I say waiting and not attacking these issues along with putting the DLP “Manifesto” out in the public forum is fraught with political peril!

Another thing that many reading my postings took me to task for was accusing Mavis Beckles of “racism” “insenstivity” and “intollerance” towards the less fortunate and Beckles is not alone for this. When these people claim that Chinese workers had to be brought in because Bajans were lazy, limers and drunks who did not want to work. Well let me ask my critics this question? If that is so why did we read in the Nation News that a Canadian resort in Collingwood hired 30 Bajans a year ago and were so impressed with their work ethic want 40 more. That tells me that the average Bajan seems to be able to fill the employment needs of foreign employers quite satisfactorily but when it comes to local foreign employers they are lazy bums. Why does the DLP not bringn this up?

I am no writer for the DLP or anyone else I merely call it as I see it because as I have said nothing that happens in Barbados politics can impact me in the slightest.

The DLP need to pay attention to what people are saying and I mean those in the “mainstream” Barbados society.

Blogs only tend to service mainly a few repeat commenters like me and others allowing them to vent but blogs do not speak for or show real trends of the mainstream populace and these are the ones who will decide the outcome of the election.

  • Yardbroom,
You are focused and analytical, and just great. Please post comments on this blog more often.

    DLP,
Do what you gotta do and don’t be sidetracked by parasites.

  • No Name, your last sentence says it all. The mainstream populace will decide – not you, not the Barbados Free Press nor the Barbados Underground, although the blogs are a great help and doing the job the mainstream media should be doing. David Thompson and his team know what they are doing and they do not need you to advise them. Perhaps it would suit you to have Thompy lashing out so that you could then accuse him of jumping up and down like a gorilla.

  • No Name has made some valid criticisms about how the DLP is dealing with the issues and controversies.

    Sadly lacking.

Who ever is giving you advise on strategy, you need to broaden your base because John Public seems very dissatisfied with your silence,or weak response on a number of pressing matters.

What will make the difference between whether people just stay away from the polls or come out in numbers to vote out the BLP will be whether they are confident that you have what it takes to deal head on with the issues.

Come on man get on with it – there are enough issues you can challenge the incumbent on without running out of steam.

Waiting until elections are called – to then mount political platforms and speak to these issues – will only cut it for a certain section of the electorate.

What about those who don’t go to Political meetings?

Your Town hall meeting is a good start, but engage the electorate on other levels and please, please, please let your shadow ministers or some hierachy in the party speak on these on-going issues that are cropping up and are going unanswered.

You giving the BLP an easy ride man, that can’t be good for this country .

    Dear Anonymous.

The DLP has been speaking to several issues over the many months. They ranges are significant. As a nation we constantly look at the now. We are aware that issues crop up ever day but we have to choose, which ones merit immediate attention. We surely are not waiting for an election to speak on the issues. Track our record over the last fourteen months. We are both attacking and offering policy prescriptions. The Town Hall meeting was just another step in our agenda. We are thankful nevertheless that persons so care to urge us to be more frontal your advice will be carried out in a manner to keep the country thinking and informed.

  • At least my comment brought two responses and I regard that as positive. Anytime a commenter is acknowledged it is a good thing because it has caused someone to think. More Barbadians should do that.

We have Owen Arthur on the World stage of the UN talking albeit rubbish about Global Warming. And he just attended and spoke on non-communicable diseases in one of the Caribbean jurisdictions.

This my friends Shorty Graves and D. Springer is called public exposure and does politicians a world of good, instead of sitting in the shadows and acting as though you have nothing to say, criticize or contribute. That is the point you two and the DLP must focus on.

No public figure can go on the public record without receiving criticism so whether Thompy likes it or not he will take licks like Arthur whenever he comes out of the shadows.Who takes their licks best and shows accountability will be the winner. But here is another point you two are missing. The FEW people who contribute to this blog a sizeable % of them and there are others doing so in the mainstream press also is saying exactly what I am saying, so this “parasite” is not the only parasite saying what I am saying. Constructive criticism is a very useful element for creating reflection and change to those with open minds!

I look at things quite differently and I am glad I do. I believe in striking when the iron is hot. Hindsight is a dreadul thing and useless after the fact!

Thompy is a very capable, bright and good politician. And above all an honest and decent man albeit one who finds debate difficult sometimes. However, victory for him is still an uphill battle and all I am saying is this. Go after your goal at every opportunity so that you have no second thoughts after the event is over and you can say “I did my best”!

At this moment he is being given opportunity after opportunity to keep his name and face in the public domain with BLP issues that are almost too bizarre to believe that a competent and honest Government could be responsible for them. Yet he and the DLP remain silent. I have said to Thompy DIRECTLY on more than one occasion this “election” will be his last and best kick at the cat of putting the DLP in office and if he fails his asperations and ambitions to lead Barbados is over. With that reality in my mind he and the DLP should be firing on all 8 cylinders 24/7.

As dreadful a legacy as the BLP has left Barbadians with, do not think for a moment that they will be an easy adversary to defeat when the election is called. Money can work miracles on an electorate that is unhappy by making them happy again. In an Election nothing can be taken for granted and every minute must be used to your best advantage.

Todays Nation News is speaking out as is Sir Roy about a questionable job going to a BLP lackey. The Union is also calling on the police and the hierarchy at the QEH to come clean about the claim of sabotage. The DLP too must get mileage out of these issues?

But my point that obviously was missed by you “Shorty Graves and D. Springer is this. It was Thompy who said he would be bringing out his “Manifesto” sooner, not me and I think this is a valid point for me and others to question. Why the change of heart?

    D. Springer let me say to you that parasites can be useful and I suggest to you with respect that the next time you respond add thoughts that are worthy in helping the DLP come to power. As you will see from previous postings of mine I have always given Yard Broom full marks for his comments and my response merely gave MY OPINIONS just as you and others have a right to yours. Where did you get it that the opinion of others like this parasite was meant to undermine Yard Broom the DLP or anybody else? Cleanse your heart of hate!

  • Here is what puzzles me, but then it seems everything in Barbados is done differently to protect the backsides of the ruling Government of the day. And that is why it is so hard to make a case against the BLP based on anything other than innuendo and what some of their mentally challenged BLP Ministers go on the public record and say, because they do not know any better! Mascoll is the worse and should be awarded the prize for being the BLP pastmaster of “loose lips”.

We are at this juncture in time complaining or debating the silence of the DLP on significant matters/issues that are impacting the pocket books of the Taxpayers. And the DLP is countering the comments of “Anonymous” suggesting that they are in fact defending the controversial issues, but in oder of priority as determined by the DLP Campaign hierarchy. Yet I read not one word about the DLP’s position on any issues in the mainstream press of Barbados. Why is this? What other sources are they using to get their position out to the people other than the odd Town Hall meeting?

But here in my opinion is an even more important issue that is needed to be fully ventilated and one the DLP should step up to the plate and tell Barbadians what they will do to fix it if elected.

The BU and their commenters, like me the “parasite” is throwing up their arms in despair suggesting that NO ONE in Barbados can get any details from any source INCLUDING FROM the DLP relating to the alleged and vulgar BLP contract over run estimated to be $120 million for flyovers. Some are claiming they cannot even find out if the contract was put out for tender.

Well while all are shouting for “Integrity” legislation, why not shout too for a Freedom of Information Act that allows the public and others the right to access information like the “flyover” documents? Because both go hand in hand. But here is another thing, why can’t Mr. David Thompson as leader of the Opposition not have the right to see details of the “flyover” contract plans etc to determine that the changes and alleged costs over run are legitimate? What kind of Democracy is in place in Barbados if this cannot be done? Were I Thompson here is how I would approach this problem IF ALLOWED IN BARBADOS. I would go to King Arthur and the Minister for road works and say or raise the issue in the house and ask for an explanation about the over run the extent of it and what caused it. And ask for answers along with the right to see pertinent documents on the matter. If “REFUSED” then I would go to the people and tell them the clandestine manner in which their money is being spent by the BLP and that me the leader of the Opposition was denied information to get to the bottom of the Scandal. Make it an election issue. Lord have Mercy we have the over-run, the Glendairy destruction, the seriously mismanaged QEH, the $200-$300 million reconstruction jail scandal, poverty, high cost of living, selling out Barbados to Foreigners both our land and businesses. Selling Agricultural land we have too little of for Development, an unfair tax system that favours the wealthy Barbadian and even more so the Foreigner and I am only scratching the surface. If the DLP started now it would take them five years to get the answers to these troubling BLP blunders far less correct them.

Why does Barbados not have a “Freedom” of Information act? That and Integrity Legislation is long overdue so where is the DLP on these matters.

The BU is asking why does the mainstream media not divulge or try to press the Authorities for information relating to the overpass “SCANDAL”. I say scandal because it is no longer a controversy. The entire mess smells of corruption. MAJOR CORRUPTION that if the DLP is elected will inherit.

BU needs to look at their opus operandi as does the BFP to understand why many people are reluctant to share information with them.

  • Yardbroom, congrats. once again!

Anonymous and No Name Rolled Into One, somebody called you, by name, a parasite? You have a guilty conscience? Well who the cap fit, let him wear it.

  • D. Springer, Sir/Madam I do not care what I am called by anyone as names good or bad mean nothing to me or most commenting on these blogs, because we are merely persons unknown to each other expressing opinions.

One only shows their ignorance by name calling other commenters WITHOUT justification and who themselves show that they lack the talent, intelligence or in depth knowledge of the subject under discussion to add anything meaningful to it.

When comments like (parasite) is made in an attempt to demean commenters rather than constructive dialogue and coming from people that to my knowledge have not appeared on this Blog before, let me tell you what message it sends. And it is one that does not help the DLP cause.

The comment could well be taken to have come from a DLP Campaign back room boy/girl trying to defend their and the DLP position. As you know the subject dealt with Campaign “inaction”.

I am big enough to know this probably was not the case because I think Thompy would be very disappointed had it been. Because if he and his Party cannot take constructive criticism then they too are showing the same colors as the BLP.

But here is another thought for you to consider that is equally important.

You by your additional comments “about if the hat fits wear it” have shown or you have shown me that you are a man/woman of little character or integrity. And let me tell you why I use such strong and insensitive terms while imploring that you use your brains to learn.

The “parasite” remark was ORIGINALLY directed at my comments of DLP Campaign inaction. When the remark was made “Anonymous” comments supporting me had not been printed.

In your latest comment suggesting “wearing the hat” you have also included Anonymous for your venomus attack. And let me tell you why you did because it is onvious to even the “village Idiot”. He agreed with me and not you. Your action shows you are a “small and vindictive” man or woman. Anyone not agreeing with you is a parasite. Well sir/madam I would rather be a parasite than a human being who lacks class and respect for the opinions of others.

  • Shorty Greaves and D. Springer:

This is a person who insults people and picks fights on a regular basis. It took him NINE paragraphs to say that “the cap fits”. Do like me and just ignore him. End of story.

  • No Name
If I may, could I address the points you have made, and I hope my brevity does not give the impression I have not thought them through.

Elections are not always won because the Government has failed, and the opposition has good policies, to rectify the damage done. They are often won because of strategic planning, attention to detail, consistency of voices, and catching the mood of the electorate.

I believe – and this is only a personal opinion – that the leader of the opposition has to choose when, what, and whom to attack at the correct moment. Party members and supporters have more scope, as they will not be called to account, with the same level of scrutiny.

What the leader of the opposition says will be pored over by political commentators, the Government and their supporters, looking for flaws in his argument and referring back to things which were said previously.

The opposition leader has a constraint upon him, in essence he is the Prime Minister in waiting. I am aware that the election has to be won first, and therefore it is imperative that should be a major – if not the first consideration – but a balance must be struck, and it is getting that balance right, which sometimes frustrate, honest, loyal supporters.

The issues you have mentioned are well documented – I will not restate them here – and I am sure they will be revisited before the election. However the election has not been called, and we should be mindful of that.

As regards Town Hall meetings, that is an operations and strategic decision, which will be taken by those in a position to do so, as and when they think it is appropriate, and I am sure they will take your opinions and those of others on board.

It is good that there are party members whose sincerity, and interest for the party is so self- evident.

I would simply say we must remember who we are opposed to, and always give advice and opinions in such a way as they can be interpreted and read as that. We will leave our ire, for those who have failed to govern us as they should have.

I am not saying you are wrong, I am simply stating another point of view, and I hope you would accept it in that way.

  • My dear Yard Broom you of all people get my attention with your well thought out and intelligent views. And let me say with the greatest of sincerity, honesty and respect that I welcome your counter arguments OR CRITICISM because they make sense. We all can learn from each other!

I am only suggesting that the DLP no matter when they come out will face the scrutiny and criticism from the BLP that you so wisely say will happen. That is a “given” in any election.

I am also suggesting that though “timing” is everything the DLP will be facing an enemy with great resources. Therefore it is not wise to sit back too long because as you know like the horses turning for home at the Savannah you need to let the boys know they are not going to box you in because you are ready and able to rock and roll with the best of them.

Please keep posting because you are a great asset to the cause. You are a man that shows restraint, contemplation and you are as I always say eloquent.

  • Here we have another chronic non- achiever in Thistle who constantly talks rubbish.

I pick fights? Did I call anyone a “parasite”? you are a typical s——- disturber who have little to offer anyone but nonsense!

Until I got on this DLP BLOG months ago it sat here day in and day out and where were the likes of you and so many others. The minute I started contributing the regulars who for reasons unknown to me insulted me nit picked at a little off color humor and tried to run me off this blog. What is the point in all of this?

What do you or anyone should care if I write diatribes of BS. Democracy that these BLOGS say they are trying to promote by giving people the right to free speech also gives you the right not to read my submissions. However they must be serving a purpose because they stir up great debate.

  • I was waiting to see if Thistle would reply to you but Thistle, who is intelligent – unlike you – said End of Story, so I guess that was it. So SHUT TO HECK UP. You accused people of jumping up and down like gorillas, but you want Mr. Thompson to jump up and down and holler about things that he will let go WHEN HE IS READY. You can dish out insults but you can’t take criticism. You have an over inflated ego, Green Monkey and No Name and all those other names. You think we don’t know who you are?
Mr. Moderator, I just could not stand by and see him get away with his insults and rot. Please end this NOW and let us get back to the issues. As Thistle said, End of Story.

  • TO ALL

This attack on each other does not advance the cause of the people of Barbados. There is a sensitivity out there that has resulted in persons being distracted from speaking to the issues, which are bedeviling Barbados. It is those issues, which we have to confront and not each other. Therefore all comments from here on it will be scrutinised quite heavily and all ad hominem attacks will be struck down. Let us stay focused on the mission. Blogs are instruments of self expression to be freely used but still normal decorum should be observed.

  • Thank you, DLP. Incidentally, it is good that comments will be scrutinised heavily from another point of view. The BLP dirty termites who were attacking BFP and BU a couple of weeks ago, have started back their attacks again, and believe me they are VICIOUS and threatening. With your method of moderation, it is unlikely they can get through on here, but watch out!

  • DLP I think you are doing the right thing. There is a definite trend in these verbal assaults on people that point to them being “PERSONAL” and that is my main point of objection. The most obvious being that they are directed against a VERY FEW AND SPECIFIC PERSONS. A little off color humour or the occasional use of a word whose meaning fits the personality and subject to me is acceptable all over the world.

However, when one looks at the situation I am speaking about the SAME people are always responsible for stirring the pot up for ulterior motives and those motives are directed towards SPECIFIC and only one or two commenters. It is simply nit picking and has no relationship or concern about decorum. These people are trouble makers! Some of these people are using different names and computers to cover up their cowardice!

The RECORD will show that only a day or two ago on THIS BLOG and before this most recent set of nonsense started again and SUDDENLY with no reason. I said that BU and the BFP were in my opinon losing the confidence of some commenters because of their opus oprandi. No sooner did I speak those words did they not come true.

I am speaking about the bizarre and mentally unstable comments of a commenter on BFP that actually and graphically called for the murder or killing of a very brilliant, knowledgeable and decent man who speaks to a subject that he is brillant on. This type of comment should never have seen the light of day and all means available should have been taken to get the information to the police in a more discreet way.

The man threatened by this CRAZY, as everyone knows by now to my knowledge has never insulted or spoken an unkind word to any of his fellow bloggers reserving his acid but ACCURATE insults for the BLP hacks who deserve it.

This man was threatened SIMPLY BECAUSE THE COMMENTER RESPONSIBLE DID NOT AGREE WITH HIS MANY ANTI BLP POSTINGS THAT WERE BOTH ACCURATE AND NEEDED TO BE SAID. The COMMENTER doing the threatening is known for this behaviour and what is worse uses the name of another responsible blogger who contributes useful comments and information to the issues that need addressing in Barbados.

Some of the people on these blogs are merely trouble makers, some could be BLP hacks responding and others as their postings show are ignorant. But they all follow a specific trend! They merely congratulate a commenter using that as a vehicle to launch an assault on their victims, or they go on a rant that makes no sense other than to show their ignorance. Few add any relevant comments of substance to the issue/s.

Another thing BLOG Administrators should not be doing is aiding inquisitive commenters in trying to determine the name of a person. I have seen the country of my IP singled out for public posting. I have also had a Blog respond to me using my correct name purposely. This is all bush league operation.

People need to know that their submissions are as protected as the other guy/gals is and no one should be singled out by a Blog Administrator.

  • I continue to be outraged at the policies being initiated by this BLP government. It seems as if they are on a roller coaster, rushing headlong down to face an almighty crash, which they don’t even seem to care about, because if they did, you would think they would stop and consider, and pull up the brakes. The latest insult to Barbadians was thrown at them by Mr. Joseph Atherley (I refuse to call him “Reverend” because in my opinion, he cannot be a Christian and should have been de-frocked long ago). Mr. Atherley stated in Parliament that the Government would be spending …. and I think the figure was FOUR MILLION …. on the erection of a snazzy National Art Gallery. I was in a telephone conversation at the time, so I may have missed the gist of his speech. But I nearly dropped the phone when he made that announcement. FOUR MILLION … on an Art Gallery? What about the Q.E. hospital, Mr. Arthur? (Mr. Atherley is only your mouthpiece). What about schools and police stations which need refurbishing? What about the Water Authority that can’t seem to get its act together and supply people with water on a regular basis? There are any number of pressing issues which persons, much more knowledgeable than I, bring to these blogs on a daily basis – issues crying out for attention, and all you BLP lot can think about is Art Galleries, Flyovers, Golf Courses, and selling out our beautiful island to foreigners, whilst some desperately poor elderly folk are living in appalling conditions? I must be living in La La land and I wish someone would pinch me and wake me up. But, then again, wake me up for what? I would still have to face the truth. Ring the bell, Owing. Ring it NOW.

  • Hi Margaret Knight

Can you tell me how is Patrick Porter doing?

Some of us are still concerned about him.

Patrick if you are o.k. can you give us a shout on the Dlp blog, since you seem to be off the BFP?

Things are heating up here in Bim Patrick, and Sunday night in Deacons Road will be ‘ole mas or like other bloggers say – cat piss and pepper.

  • Margaret Knight

    Hi Anonymous,

Duh … One Smart Died At Two (Too?) Smart’s Door.

  • Someone mentioned Mark Smart crook Williams????

  • Margaret

I don’t even know how to interpret that answer.

For a minute I thought you were saying Patrick had died.

Anyway it was a genuine question and I was hoping for a genuine answer.

    Thanks anyway.

P.S. Is patrick Porter the same as Dave Allamby, aka green Monkey and No Name?

  • Anonymous, out of matter of interest the No Name get expose on the Barbados Underground by Idealist who was warning Mr Allamby to please keep his post clean, so you could see that it is all the same person.

  • Thanks Candice

I don’t know what to make of all that subterfuge and cloak and dagger stuff.

What’s the purpose of changing your name on the different blogs if you are consistent in your views?

I would like to think that we are all united in the one hope of ridding this country of this entrenched corruption in high places.

I still would like to know how Patrick Porter is – and hoping that he is well.

And I still don’t understand Margaret Knight’s response – I think the problem might be me – I can’t read between the lines too good.

DLP – please attend tp your blog – have a dedicated person clear the posts at least twice or three times a day.

I don’t think the traffic is as heavy as BFP or BU, and it does give us the reader a sense that you are in touch with the public and care about what we have to say.

  • Margaret Knight

    Anonymous:
I don’t like getting into personal stuff because, as the blog moderator would advise, that is not what these blogs are about. However, as you have called me to account twice, I shall try to explain something. There is a sick trickster circulating on these blogs (DLP/BFP/BU) who is somewhat successful in pulling wool over bloggers’ eyes. He cannot do this to me, because I have been on to him and his tricks for some time. You have asked me a question which I prefer not to answer, because, after all, how do I know who “Anonymous” is? That is why I stated that “one smart died at two smart’s door”. Anonymous, have you ever seen a vulture circling the sky, waiting to pounce on a victim? Well, I don’t intend to be that victim! I won’t fall into that trap. You may very well be genuine, but knowing what I know, I won’t take that chance. Sorry, old boy/girl!

  • O.K Margaret, please believe that I am genuine in my remarks, however I’m begining to get the drift that something is afoot.

The only reason why I asked you is because sometime back you were acting as an intermediary for Patrick Porter over at BFP when he was ill and couldnot communicate.

Believe me I know how cautious you must be,especially since you are the mother of David and may have experienced first hand how dangerous certain people in this society can be.

I’ll not bring the matter up again, but just to say in closing,if the person patrick is one and the same as Allamby I tell you I’ll be floored because Patrick had me convinced for sure.

  • I don’t often contribute to this – or any other – blog, and I am not courageous like Irene Sandiford-Garner, Margaret Knight and Adrian Loveridge, who use their own names openly. But I have been studying the “Bajan psyche” for some time and I am truly amazed – amazed at the gullibility and seeming lack of perception prevalent in Bajans. By perception, I mean specifically the ability to see through people – to figure out what makes them tick, so to speak. When you read these blogs, or even listen to the radio Call In programmes, you realise that there are some “sick” people around. Now I know I will be treading on tender territory to say this (and it is only MY perception): The managers of the Barbados Free Press seem to have a particular loathing for Mr. David Thompson, and in fact, when they continually berate him the way they do, it says a lot about their characters (one of whom is obviously English as he/she writes to “bath” a baby, instead of bathe the baby. People do leave clues in their scriblings!). I’ll bet you if Mr. Thompson does in fact introduce Integrity Legislation (when the DLP win the Government) you won’t get a word of praise out of them. On the contrary, you might read instead, “Is that ALL he can do?” It would appear to me that they are looking for MR. PERFECT. In which case, they are looking for God. Those BFP people have never had a good word for David Thompson. Does this not tell you something about their characters?

Many of the bloggers on BFP appear to be lawyers or professional persons with University degrees and very little common sense. They are also a bunch of a ….lickers. They nod their heads and murmur, “Yes sir, no sir, three bags full, sir” whenever BFP go on their rant against Mr. Thompson. The only ones with any fortitude are “Yardbroom”, “Rumplestilskin”, “Hants”, “Jerome Hinds” and of course “Wishing in Vain”, who sometimes should be called “Writhing in Pain”, he becomes so monotonous.

As to the atrocious grammar and spelling of the bloggers, well, International readers must wonder if we have schools here. We have one idiot who refers to “huge tracks of land” time and time again.

The Barbados Underground, on the other hand, appears to be kinder and more courteous to the DLP, but unfortunately they do allow some vulgarity to creep on to their blog. David of BU seems to be a more rational, balanced person than the Hot Heads on BFP.

DLP public relations department needs shaking up, but I am convinced that you are on the right course and should not be sidetracked by those who are shouting for you to come on strong about all the corruption and rape of this island by the BLP. There is time for that when the bell rings. But I do expect you to come on VERY strong at that time. Do not leave one stone unturned, and do NOT let Mascoll get away with that Hardwood Housing issue, you have to keep hammering him.

  • Come on, DLP, WAKE UP! Surely Caribsurf can’t still be causing you problems, yet this weblog doesn’t move for DAYS. You need to arouse from your lethargy.

I was visiting some friends in Duguid’s (soon to be Taan Abed’s) constituency and I met two elderly white ladies, who would never have dreamt of voting anything but BLP before (they loved Henry Forde and his tea parties), who told me they like that “good-looking young man, Taan Abed” very much and they’re going to vote for him. They say he appears to be honest and genuine.

Duguid, meanwhile, is very busy trying to get natural gas installed in every home in that constituency before elections are called. Why is he waiting until now, and breaking his neck to try and get it organised? Does he think the people in that Christ Church constituency are stupid?

Sorry thistle but Caribsurf is still at fault. we have to access from other sites. sorry

  • Sometimes when I contemplate on what is going on in our country, it is easy to despair and be disillusioned, but then on closer examination, all is not lost. We have things aplenty to look forward to.

There is the tenacity and courage of the likes of the young Irene Sandiford-Garner, the DLP candidate for St.Andrew, who has shown strength of character, and undoubted spirit in her efforts to be elected to Parliament.

It is that strength of character, burnished with youthful pride and endeavour, that our country cries out for. It is only the people of St Andrew who have the remit to exercise their choice of candidate.

Wise as they are, they will consider the candidates and make their choice. I sincerely hope, perhaps one day, they will look back, and be able to say with satisfaction, it was us who set this young lady on the path to great things, and feel a little pride in knowing, she is one of our own.

Often we talk of the young, but when they are willing and able to step up to the plate, with all that entails, we should reciprocate by saying you have taken up the challenge and come before us, it is for us to support you, and so we will.

  • DLP: I owe you an apology. It would appear that Caribsurf are indeed making life difficult for you. Could you not go to Sunbeach instead? I can no longer access your Blog from your website, I have to pull it up from other websites, and I dare not mention which ones because undoubtedly they will try to block you off from there as well. But ONE DAY COMING SOON!

  • The Government’s repeated over-spending on large capital projects, has driven the popular”allegations” of corruption. One could with reason say, what Barbados needs is a National Audit Office, which can “diligently” monitor Government spending.

You might ask, why have I not advocated this view before, my reason is, a monitoring or judicial system is as effective as its officers integrity, without that fundamental character trait, all laws and systems are ineffective.

My focus has always been, on the integrity of officials, who govern us.

I have therefore paid scant attention, to those who say repeatedly, mantra like, that the DLP opposition party, have no candidates with the depth of experience needed, to govern us. My simple retort is, those of this BLP Government, with this supposed large reservoir of experience, have not applied themselves with any distinction in that regard. It takes more than just experience to commend oneself.

Without integrity, we will have leaders who operate like eighth century brigands.

When one advances the view, that integrity is not required of a leader in a Democratic system of Government, it simply underscores, we have lost sight of reality.

Because of this belief, that integrity is not important in public life, there is a disconnect between what people say, and what they do and it keeps on repeating itself. There is a fundamental dysfunction between what we are, and what we would like to be.

Political achievement, is not measured in terms of personal wealth – not in itself a bad thing – but in how far one has advanced the community, one represents.

Leaders have to realize, that their lasting legacy will always be measured, by how far forward they have advanced their country and not by how much wealth they have accumulated, it is the ability to see clearly, and use that broader vision which gives the stamp of a leader.

  • DLP:

I, and others, have, from time to time warned about the character with hundreds of noms de plume, now calling himself No Name on Barbados Underground, and occasionally sneaking one in on BFP as “Sargeant”, although they had kicked him off. I think I even warned you not to trust him because, although he was posting favourable comments towards the DLP on this blog, he was cussing David Thompson and the DLP out over on BU! Today he is once again crying down the DLP, while telling Owen Arthur on BU how to win “nuff votes” by bringing in masses of turkeys at X’mas time. He has also stated that the No Confidence Motion soon to be brought will be a big “yawn”, no substance whatsoever.
BE WARNED – he is not to be trusted.

  • There will be no voting for a Republic now, to confuse the electorate.

The game is up, and everyone knows it.

The citizens are waiting patiently, at the election gates, for them to be opened, from where they can venture forth.

This Government, limpet like, clings to power, as a quiet, yet determined population, wait with eager anticipation, to give their verdict on more than a decade of governance.

There is yet more huffing and puffing to come, a few unbridled threats to be endured, here and there, and the odd vituperative, vindictive address, to those who have dared to step out of line, and expressed a contrary opinion to that held by Government operatives.

The prison overuns; the flyover; the Cricket World Cup expenditure and the consequent humiliation of our police; the Chinese workers who were here, and yet they were not, the list seems endless.

Power can be an intoxicating brew, it never last for ever, and the powerful when they are in a position to exercise that power, must always think of the time when they will not have it – what then?

I say to those, who will soon be entrusted with the highest accolade, of governing their country, think on the above for a while, for it is by the exercise of power you will ultimately be judged.

I hope that we can see something different, to what we have experienced in the past. Most citizens only ask of you, fair and firm governance, respect for the Law, honesty, probity in dealing with the electorate and prudence with the nation’s resources. Full acknowledgement that the rich and famous must obey the Law, and it must be seen to be done without favour.

Like any citizen, I ask this now that the slate is “clean”. You will have an opportunity to make a difference in Barbados.

There is a lot of work to be done.

  • Margaret Knight

I understand that during her Reply to the No Confidence Motion in the House, Minister Liz Thompson referred to a letter, written by me, and published in The Nation newspaper, in which I stated that I could not find my son (David Thompson). I did not hear what she said because I do not listen to ANYTHING Liz Thompson says. However, I was amazed that, with so many important issues at hand, she would be so infantile as to make mention of what was a satirical, harmless, tongue-in-cheek letter! David and I have always enjoyed teasing each other, and engaging in political banter. Most intelligent people understand this, and I know there are those on Liz Thompson’s side of the House who would. But Liz Thompson herself? Nah! She would never understand satirical humour. How about when Lowdown Richard Hoad pokes fun at his wife, or mother-in-law? Does anyone make a fuss about that? It is all part and parcel of an affectionate relationship. But would Liz Thompson understand that? Nah! Hence her purile attempt to belittle David. Sorry, Liz, it didn’t work.

If only we had more mothers/fathers who could experience the joy there is in “teasing” their grown sons/daughters! I, too, know of such and the unity it can bring about in families. But, if certain persons do not have a chick nor child, you certainly cannot expect them to know the joy you’ve alluded to. Keep the fun in the family going; you have a precious son ….enjoy it.

At the same time, can we have the evidence from those watching at Greenland when the earth tremors took place? Can’t we bestow medals of bravery on those men/women who knew before hand that tremors were going to take place, thus had positioned themselves to observe what happened at the dump? Furthermore, after the boss lady for emergency planning was injured at her own workplace, these brave men, “Heroes Of The Greenland Dump”, stood their ground and observed every inch of the area to ensure there was no damage. What bravery! Can we see their pictures on CBC?
Farley Hill House damaged, Boscobelle damaged, St. Joseph’s Parish Church damaged, “ALL IS WELL” at Greenland in the same Scotland District area!

  • To the Democratic Labour Party’s candidates, bloggers and everyone here. A very happy Christmas, and may 2008 be the year of:

    “Thompson’s triumph”

May the good Lord, guide and direct us.

  • Looking to the future.

Now in this cycle of change, when a heady atmosphere of optimism pervades everything. I ask, perhaps not, I “beseech” the DLP leader -David Thompson – and candidates to factor into their plans for the future, the ordinary man, the common man, the elderly and the poor. They have been marginalised for too long, and deserve opportunities to uplift themselves, and their families to prosperity, and a with it a better standard of life.

In recent years, they have become “invisible people” and forgotten, only bit part players on the stage, brought on only to be used and then discarded, while the movers and shakers, sip cocktails with the rich and famous.

That has got to change, there must be a resurgence from the grass roots, ordinary Barbadians must feel valued, wanted, and their interest “must” be considered in all things.

I say this now, when plans will be taking shape for change, so that the mindset becomes accustomed to looking after their interest.

In the long term events will prove it to be a wise decision, as it will give our country the “stability” to repel any insidious outside forces, this will allow “all” Barbadians to be as one, we can then go forwards and upwards to prosperity.

  • my mother an upstanding primary school teacher retired in the 1960’s on a salary of $400.00. she receives about $700-800 now. but cant something be done to help people like this who built bim from the ground up? you need to address the needs of this group of people.
also what is the dems intention for culture and its encouragement. will it be work for those who appear on the culture junkets in election season only.
and what will you do with the goodly doctor at the pan-african affairs who is a rabid supporter of the ruling party and nodoubt will be using funds to help in the campaign for re-election?
tell us what you intend to do before election day.

  • A friend of mine, who lives in Dublin, called me on the phone yesterday. He asked me if I ever read USA Today, or the Barbados Free Press blog. I replied that I do not read USA Today, but that I do read the BFP. He went on to say these words: “Well, a Barbados Free Press article on Integrity and Transparency Laws – or lack thereof – found its way onto USA Today, and believe me, those BFP folks have done more damage to Barbados than an Al Quaeda suicide bomber.” He went on to say that he is a member of a Business Persons’ Club in Dublin and that he and two other guys were planning a huge investment in Barbados, but after reading the BFP article in USA Today they won’t touch it with a 10 foot pole.

My friend was born in Barbados, but went to live in Ireland when he was a child. He has been responsible for sending many Irish visitors to Barbados.

Charming picture, isn’t it. Whilst I am horrified at the implications for Barbados – which certainly could use a boost or two right now – I can’t help feeling that because of the apparent reluctance on the part of the DLP to introduce Integrity Legislation, you may now pay a heavy price.

Having said that, I am willing to bet dollars to doughnuts that if and when you do introduce Integrity Legislation, you may please the Barbados public, but you still will NOT please those evil people over at the Barbados Free Press. Whatever form it takes, they will not accept it. Damned if you do, and damned if you don’t. The hurtful part is to know that they are not even Bajans. BTW, I have suggested to my friend that he submit a letter to the mainstream press about the damage done to Barbados by the BFP. It probably won’t see the light of day, but he can also post it on here.

  • DLP: I’m beginning to wonder if this is your blog, or mine. Am I talking to myself here? It is all your fault, because would-be contributors got fed to hell up waiting almost one week after submitting a comment to see it published. You gotta do something to win them back.

Meanwhile, over on Barbados Free Press, some idiotic bloggers are congratulating BFP for the arrival of the long-awaited ITAL and FoI to be debated in Parliament! I got a good laugh out of that. But BFP is keeping quiet. You know why? Because they’re waiting to pick holes in the structure of the proposed legislation – wait and see. I said before, and I will say it again – they will NOT be satisfied, no matter what form it takes. So if Thompy and you-all are expecting praise from that quarter, forget it. Ain’t gonna happen.

I will save my congratulations (to the DLP, not BFP) for when the matter is a fait accompli. Please try and encourage some more contributors.
    Ciao.

  • Barbados Free Press, in its infinite wisdom(???!) informed everyone on its blog that nothing had been written on the DLP blog since January, 2008, but someone corrected them, and still they claimed they were right!

Now, up comes Mr. Hants (you don’t know who he is? Think of a pipe, a red rose and filthy pornographic books), the A-licking wimp, with the following statement on BFP:

    “Hants
    August 28, 2009 at 12:56 am
Why do we need a blog when we have the best blog in Barbados. BFP is the best forum for us DLP supporters.”

Don’t laugh!! (That is, if anyone is reading this). Now I suppose I shall have to wait a week before this is published!

  • Oh, jolly good – that was only two days! Thanks so much, DLP. I’m happy that I can come on here and vent my frustrations (even if no one reads it but the Administrator!). I cannot get down in the gutter on the other two blogs (BFP and BU) and I hope that none of the filthy slugs that operate on those blogs ever come on here. I sometimes have to hold my head in disgust when I read some of the comments, especially on BFP, who are hell-bent on destroying Barbados and David Thompson, all because both governments (B & D) refused to kowtow to his (I mean the (M)Allard duck from Graeme Hall) demands to force land owners to sell their land to him for a park.

Now we have the Hartley Henry bassa-bassa, and BFP and its cohorts are over the moon because they can rant and rave over something new. (Oh, gosh, Ma, look what new toy just fell into my playpen).

As to that one who uses several different computers all with different IP’s, so that he can pretend to be several different people, who hates David Thompson with a purple passion, but when he visits Barbados every year (from Canada), he skins and grins with Thompson and fawns all over him. Hypocritical bastard. I’m talking about PiedPiper/Sargeant/Green Monkey/No Name, and other names as well. In the fullness of time I will reveal his real name.

DLP, you had a top class conference; well run, well attended, with a tremendous feeling of camaraderie, so keep focused on what you have to do, and know that you have majority support in Barbados. The jealous, envious detractors and haters can rant and rave as much as they like on the blogs, but at the end of the day, the majority of Bajans are backing you. I just hope that more people will come on here and post comments, and if there is criticism, please let it be constructive criticism – no harm in that.
